Don't strain yourself about judging. There are professionals for that.

$4.5b in new money, and yes it's much needed. -
I think all you fanatical religious bigots should have your inane discussions in the Religion section. Who the hell can't figure out human decency and respect without some bossman telling them how? And then the bossmen want your money! And they want you to hate 'the other'. It's such a f*kn racket. Take your silly battle-of-the-books elsewhere.

Italians suffered a lot from prejudice and xenophobia in Canada. There's always some cowardly jerks who like to pick on the new guys. We should f*kn dropkick the lot of you back to Europe! Where's this magical white nation where you want to land, Argus?

All that violent nonsense ... and they still didn't get to build the friggin golf course. -
That's always been the case. People get over it, life goes on, the children get along, grow up into virtually indistinguishable second generation Canadians. But what you actually said was: The degree to which the newcomers are different from us in the way they talk, act, look, behave and worship plays a huge part in the rising anger and resentment. Can you clarify what you mean by that, and how that possibly affects people's daily lives to any significant extent? Do you think that politicians inciting fear and hatred against Muslim immigrants for political gain and votes plays a role?
-
I answered your question: The Laws in Islamic Nations makes it a capital crime to put Homosexuals to death. [sic] This is a law of Islamic nations. Since you support the practice of Islam within the law. You support this law? That is not the law in Canada.

Bring ISIS fighters back to Canada??

Are you saying that Canada's laws and justice system can't do their job, soldier? -

You don't believe our laws, national security, border security, police, courts etc will do their jobs? Nobody gets a pass on that. But children must be considered first, and not separated from parents unless incarceration is warranted. -
That isn't the law here. Sidebar: It cracks me up that the extreme right in Canada, who consistently and vehemently opposed women's rights, same sex rights, and all rights for anyone but heterosexual white men, are now positioning themselves as the great defenders of equal human rights ... except for Muslims. You guys are hilarious!!

So they can be from the British Isles as long as they aren't different from us in the way they talk, act, look, behave and worship ? Are you saying that 'devoted believers in a religion' are freaking out about foreign born Muslim Canadians? I haven't noticed that to be true. Church and synagogue people are always at the white supremacist rallies to drown out the anti-Muslim hate speech. Has a Christian ever said that the Bible isn't the absolute word of God ? Yes, we have laws and police to address that, regardless of the perpetrators' religion or lack of. I don't know what you mean by 'our' values. I don't think all Canadians share the same values. I don't think I share many with you, for example.
-
Your concern is that more recent "foreign born" Canadians are not "identical in almost all respects to Canada of the time". How so?

This isn't a battle of religions. It's a human rights issue. I don't support the content of any religion. I do support anyone's right to practice their religion as they choose, or freedom from religion, within the law.

Army Guy, you are wrong about a lot of this, and you need to talk about it with someone in authority that you respect. The Constitution and people's constitutional rights do take precedence. Suspending Constitutional rights across the whole country did happen in peacetime during the FLQ crisis, and once during the war, but NOT for OKA. The courts are government ... the Judicial Branch of government. Politicians cannot tell the courts what to do. The courts can strike down legislation passed by Parliament if it violates Constitutional rights. "Riots" in Toronto ... I assume you're referring to the 2010 G20? There were no "riots", but the Toronto police violated the Constitutional rights of over 1000 people. Lawsuits continue. And the RCMP aren't much better. They think they can violate Constitutional Indigenous rights, and violate a people's freedom of expression if they speak out. I can't begin to address all the errors in your post, but it's very disturbing that a Canadian soldier would think and act that way, huge gaps in your training. Your duty is to the people of Canada. I can only say ... Once again you go down a road with little knowledge on the topic... -
Unh... ya ... as Canada always has been. Just more xenophobic hysteria, Argus.
-
Paranoia requires medical treatment, not political xenophobia.
-
In my experience, that's not true in Canada. There is more anti-Muslim xenophobia in conservative rural/small town areas where there are no Muslims and no direct contact with 'the scary other'. Imaginations run wild, fuelled by cut-throat bigot conservative politicians who have no qualms about creating anxiety and fear of 'the scary other' ... to get votes.

I did not say women get a "pass". You did, but you are wrong. I said the laws and the courts will decide. And that includes making decisions about stripping citizenship, which will not happen. There will be lengthy investigative and legal processes. You are freaking out about your own imaginary catastrophies, which bear no resemblance to the legal realities. Such hysterical nonsense is not useful. -
Islam, Christianity and Judaism all have violent and deranged extremists who attach themselves to the religion without really being part of the religious community, and co-opt elements of the religion to justify their violent acts. Those religious communities consistently deny that their religion supports such violent acts. The fact that such perpetrators seldom attend church, mosque or synagogue and are not part of religious communities tends to validate the communities' position. Deranged and violent sociopathic criminals sometimes kill their own children, claiming to be 'saving' them from some more horrible fate. Or they rampage against a family, a bank, an employer etc in some hallucinatory rage of revenge. My point: Homicidal rage criminals will always provide some 'justification' for their acts, but it means nothing except that they are deranged and violent criminals. So why are some people still arguing how a religion encourages or 'causes' these violent acts? Does a woman 'encourage' or 'cause' a violent husband to kill her and their children after she leaves him? Is it 'her fault'? Of course not. Is he every bit as likely to be violent after a different woman leaves him? Of course he is. A religion (or a woman, a bank, etc) is just a convenient target for a violent homicidal criminal to 'blame' for his own deranged emotions and violent acts. Anyone can pull verses from any religious texts to try to 'blame' a religion and its adherents for 'encouraging' or 'causing' a criminal's violent acts, but those who try to 'blame' another religion usually have a political agenda, not a religious one. I will always dismiss as self-serving religious arguments used by a homicidal criminal to justify violent criminal actions. And I will always dismiss as self-serving or state-serving propaganda any arguments that quote religious texts to 'blame' a religion for homicidal criminals' actions. The only conversation worth having is how police and security personnel can improve their intervention to identify and prevent homicidal criminals from committing such atrocities. Breton Tarrant's Christian religion is not to blame for his violence, nor is Islam.

I said police and security, not government. You didn't read the link in the OP that I referenced. I won't repost it.

Fortunately you have no reason to be bothered, since women are free to wear what they want.
