There is a distinction drawn between people "speaking their mind" to others privately (not a crime) and people organizing rallies in public spaces, or promoting their views publicly (online, distributing flyers, etc) in order to incite and recruit others against a particular group (a crime). Tricky distinction perhaps, but the justice system is created for such, and it is a high standard for charges and convictions. White Nationalists position themselves as defenders of 'free speech', and they push the boundaries intentionally to test the limits of society's tolerance and the law. I think such organized and intentional campaigns to villify a group are a different kettle of fish from individuals just "speaking their mind".

'White nationalists' is what they call themselves. This is the context of my response to Yzermandius19: Anti-muslim rhetoric should be protected free speech. Holocaust denial should be protected free speech. Inciting and promoting hatred should be protected free speech. Canada wouldn't know what free speech is, if it slapped them in the face. Canada is notorious for their hatred of free speech, hate speech laws are the prime example of that. That's a white nationalist rant for freedom to organize to incite hatred against people of colour, Muslims being the favourite target these days.

Wow. You really hang out with the wrong people!
-
But Canada isn't the 'white nation' you're looking for! You'll have to look elsewhere.
-
Awwww ... has the white supremacist got their knickers in a knot because 'inciting or promoting hatred' against Muslims is a crime in Canada?! https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/c-46/section-319.html
-
Or you'll ... what? You'll leave the country?
-
Christians can't be white nationalists?
-
That is an interesting topic for another thread.
-
Huntley had failed to provide evidence that he would not get such protection in his home country.
-
taxme, if you ever bothered to get your facts straight, you wouldn't have to get your pants in a knot so much. White South Africans immigrate to Canada all the time. One man tried to get in as a refugee and was denied. https://www.iol.co.za/news/canada-boots-out-sas-white-refugee-1706525

I don't think anyone disagrees that Trudeau shot himself in the foot with his "open arms" comment. However, it didn't end when they entered the country: The fact remains that those asylum-seekers will be processed according to the rules, and many won't be able to stay in Canada.

White supremacy ruins it.
-
So once again you're a purveyor of bs. Not interesting and ... not surprising.

The anti-Muslim rhetoric of white supremacists is not necessarily protected as free speech. Free speech does not apply when to inciting or promoting hatred against identifiable groups of people (simply because they belong to the group: e.g., Muslim, Jewish, Black, gay, trans, immigrants, etc). It's a high standard for charges (must be approved by the Attorney General) and conviction. EG Jim Keegstra, Alberta holocaust denier, convicted 1985. Kevin J Johnstone, Mississauga currently facing Section 319 charges. Paul Fromm, Hamilton, currently under investigation for Section 319 violations.

Speaking of white supremacists ... they were not made welcome in Toronto last Saturday! https://globalnews.ca/news/5088477/far-right-rally-planned-saturday-toronto/ “I strongly condemn the ideology & tactics of white supremacists planning to demonstrate & disrupt today in our city,” [Mayor] Tory said. “There is no place for them in our Toronto.” ... Pegida, a far-right, anti-Islam group, held a rally near University Avenue and Dundas Street on Saturday afternoon. Around 30 Pegida protesters showed up, [and] around 250 counter-protesters, PEGIDA tried to march, counter-protesters sat down and stopped them, police managed to escort the PEGIDA pigs away via a subway entrance. Bye bye creeps! I am pleased to Toronto handle this the way it should: No 'parade' permit for PEGIDA, and no police escort for their march, as it should be.

Yes, it is more accurate and clearer to say white supremacist terrorists (not far-right). I guess I was trying to be more politically correct, but you're right - it's just more confusing. Lol
-
BIG thread drift going on here, folks! This isn't an immigrant/refugee discussion, nor about Muslim countries. There are other threads for that. Try to reconnect with the thread topic, addressing far-right terrorists in Canada.
-
It makes no difference how they arrived. The screening process and eligibility rules are still applied. Oops! Off topic.
-
The topic is Canada.
-
Absolute nonsense. What evidence can you provide to support your ridiculous claims?
-
Despite our "values", we have homophobic and transphobic and citizens already in Canada. Are you suggesting that we should revoke their citizenship if they don't pass your 'values test'? Entering and staying or being in Canada requires adherence to the law. Regardless of personal (homophobic, transphobic, etc) feelings, landlords, employers etc can't discriminate or incite or promote hatred against people on those grounds. That is the law.
-
Canadian citizens convicted of terrorist acts are dealt with here - arrest, charge, court, convict, jail - the normal process. People in Canada without citizenship committing terrorist acts (or other serious crimes) will go through that process too, and may also be deported. What part of that are you having a problem with?
-
No.
-
I don't believe I used the word "Islamophobia", so you may be replying to someone other than me? Inciting and promoting and normalizing hatred against all Muslims is clearly implicated.
-
We differ in our perspective. You think the 'sides' are Muslims vs Christians/western society? No. The 'sides' are decent people of all races/religions/etc vs extremists/terrorists of all types. Your fundamental assumptions are faulty, from my perspective. ISIS or other 'Islamic' terrorists are not the 'army' of all Muslims, any more than 'Christian' terrorists are the 'army' of western society.
