Brilliant except you left out Iraq attacked. How come?
-
Argus It is actually people like you who wants to see American cities bombed otherwise you would not be supporting a war monger president, who is going to be bringing more attacks on US soil. And everyone knows is only a matter of time. Those bombers in London today delivered a message. They can hit again the same place, the same time, and the UK is powerless to stop it. How long do you think it is going to take for them to do the same thing on US soil? And perhaps Canada as well?

Global Empire The problem is there are not one or two articles like this, but hundreds, if not thousands, being written every day, and their numbers are increasing exponentially. What is it going to take for it to sink in that this invasion of Iraq has been a total failure, and the sooner foreign troops are out of there the better. Even Bush's ratings are heading due South and will soon be in the toilet.

You war mongers can go on and fight your wars. I just wish there was some way the rest of us who don't believe in war could be kept out of it. The problem for the war mongers is that this US/UK invasion of Iraq is not a moral war. The WW 2 war against Germany was. And that my dear friends is the difference.

According to this article in "The Nation" military planning for attacking Iran is underway quite similiar in a lot of ways to the process that involved the US attacking Iraq. do you think the US or Israel will attack Iran and if so how will they do it? The Iran War Buildup

What are your main sources for getting the news these days? My impressions are that there are fundamental shifts taking place, however I am curious to know what kind of impact these media changes are having on the people who post here at mapleleafweb. My main source of news now is the 'net and the radio, however I still like to see a paper once in a while. no more TV news although I will still watch special events such as election nite returns. My specifc souces of news I will get into at a later time. So if you do get the news where do you get it from? For example, do you get it from the internet version of the Wall Street Journal or what? Maybe percentages might be the best way to approach this. i.e TV News - 50%, CBS - 20%, & CNN - 30% Newspaper - 5%, Toronto Sun - 5% Internet - 45% Calgary Herald Online - 44%, The Tyee - 1%

Global warming doesn't exist, does it?
mirror replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well I think we can put that puppy to rest: Hot enough for ya? The problem with the global warming naysayers such as yourself is that you are contributing to putting us all in jeopardy. So I have no use for people who do that. What we actually need are people working on the solution to global warming, not working on ridiculous distractions with no scientific basis in fact. -
Terror returns to London What do people think? If you have to go to London in the near future honestly would you take the tube?

All the following relate: Longevity and being proper role model for children Drain on our health care system Seating space for example on aeroplanes. Meat eaters and the environmental costs of raising cattle.

I was just reading back through some of Paul Well's posting on his Macleans' website and he also has a blurb on this subject. He takes about Canada's role, or lack of one, as well. Europe has to integrate for to have a good future that much is obvious, but do the political leaders have the will to make it succeed?: July 19, 2005 Europe: Wakeup call. Canada: Snooze button.

I basically support what Mr Livingstone, the Mayor of London, says. There is lots of stuff on the 'net to explain what that means. London attacks were meant to kill: police For those people who think that today's attacks were anything less than 2 weeks ago, I am not so sure that was the intent of these would be killers. Freedom of expression is a good subject to discuss because it is not all cut and dried like some people believe. We have societial norms that need to be followed and respected. We can't have religious clergy going around inciting violence any more than we should allow our military officers to incite violence. and maybe at one time it was acceptable to denegate jews or muslims, but this is no longer acceptable. What is acceptable in sociey changes too with time, and we have a responsibility to keep up with those changes, whether or not we agree with them. Smoking is another good example where things have changed, where once things used to be acceptable and now they are not. I think the same is coming for fat people as well.

McLellan: No threat in Canada There you have it folks. There is no threat to Canada so go back to your beers and your vlts.

Musharraf calls for jihad against Islamic militants Good. He should have done it a long time ago.

This hypocrisy is what bothers me a lot. We will send other people's kids or other people into battle but not ourselves. Bush nor Pataki do not believe in war if it involves themselves or their kids bit it is fine for others. What kind of bravery or leadership is that?

No one said we had to "put up" with terrorist attacks. That our government has chosen a passive stance in the war on terror has been notably lauded by the Canadian Left. It's so much easier to remain judgemental if we don't pick a side, and let others pick our side for us. Just don't be surprised that nobody in the rest of the world gives a damn when it happens here. You say "alternative sources of energy" as if the thought had never occurred to anyone else. What a brilliant idea! Which allies? I thought the whole world was against America lately. You'd love it if a dirty bomb went off in Washington, wouldn't you? The schadenfreude would be so stimulating. Here is the problem for the anti-Americans though - the American response to terrorism has been restrained, compared to what they are capable of. If a dirty bomb goes off in a major American city, you can count on Americans upping their efforts to remake the Middle East, not pulling out. And you can count on harsher attacks on civil liberties, to make the Patriot Act look like something the ACLU cooked up. And if there's any indication that Canadians were involved, you could pretty much expect our economy to tank with new, stricter border security measures in place. In other words, every element of the war on terror that you despise would become that much greater overnight. I hate to break it to you, but history is moving ahead with or without your approval. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Now please shut up!

Police to Check Bags on NYC Subways Better make sure your purses and bags are nice and tidy now that they are going to be searched.
-
By the by, if you'd care to reread my post, you'll note that I was suggesting Black Dog would derive that sort of pleasure, not "Canadians". Thanks for twisting my words. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ah, I don't think so.

Why don't we just leave other people alone to run their countries they way they see fit? Since when does the Western world have the answers for everyone? Often we can't even figure out answers for ourselves. I'm really tired of Christianity, and these born-again Christians, who feel they have to save the world when they can't even dsave themselves. What is a really sad indictment of Canadian politicians and our political parties is that not one of the major party leaders in Canada challenged Hillier's comments, yet most Canadians are diametrically opposed to his approach.
-
You are the bottom of the barrel when you suggest that Canadians would derive please from seeing American cities bombed.
-
Tough General, Bad Approach Here is an interesting in depth article about Hillier, who IMO, is only going to make matters worse.

Sounds like justice system in some ways is alive and well in the USA. Sure sounds like Rove is hooped to me. I wonder who else is going down with him: Plame's Identity Marked As Secret Rove: Not Entirely Forgotten

BHS Dirty bombs can happen anywhere. Only someone with a twisted sick mind could come to the conclusion that Canadians would get pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others. If the people who are perpetuating this war in Iraq, and their supporters, were subjected to what the people in Iraq are being subjected to in Iraq, I can guarantee you that the war effort would be stopped overnight. Why don't the people sign up to go and fight there if they believe in the cause so much. People need to put their money where their mouth is. But cowards and bullies don't do that, do they?
-
So we are supposed to put up with these attacks on our cilivian populations just because the US wants oil in the Middle East. Screw it. The US needs to start looking at alternative sources of energy, change their habits, and get the hell out of Iraq, before al Quaeda ups the ante and use a dirty bomb next in the US or one of their allies.
