  1. Harper and Martin are identical, two peas in a pod as they say. There is no better way to confirm than looking at Elections Canada webside. The bulk of their money comes from a few select corporation, the rich who they mingle with on a daily basis, both of them. Canadians want better health care, better schools, less pollution, good public transit. Canadians don't want to be involved in illegal wars with the US, both Harper and Martin do. the Tories brought us the softwood lumber disagreement with the US and the Grits have continued it. These two political parties fundamentally are quite identical representing the same people. I am surprised thay the Tories and the Grits have not considered merging before now. Perhaps they will after the next election.
  2. Dear CES All you want to do is union bash. go right ahead. I have already explained to you that unions are democratic and corporations are not. If unions are so bad why don't you quit? You don't have an answer do you? Exactly. BTW here are the Tory figures from Elections Canada. Individuals $1,807,845.46 Businesses/Commercial organizations $ 3,301,608.85 Where did you get your figures from? A Conservative website? Cheers
  3. So much for August's brilliant theories about the CBC, eh!
  4. Dear CES Wrong. Unions elect their leaders in a democratic fashion. Corporations are not democratic because they are controlled by those with the most money. I'm surprised that you don't know that basic difference. Actually you do know the difference, but you are just making misleading comments because of your attempted union-bashing. Cheers
  5. When you boil it all down there really is no difference between the Tories and the Grits They both want to sell Canada out to the highest bidder, they support trade agreements with the US that are to Canada's detriment, and they basically represent the rich, you know the people who want a flat-tax system, and no public services such as decent public schools, or health care for the poor. Every single complaint Canadians have against their national government can be laid at the footstep of these two parties, because they have been running Canada since confederation. So if you are upset with your national government blame the Tories and the Grits. Layton: Nation feeling disenfranchised
  6. Gotta laugh at the skewed and misleading stats. Everyone knows the Tories have $20 million, much more than anyone else.
  7. Sounds like the kind of comment Parizeau made on referendum nite which has haunted the separatists ever since.
  8. As Cartman said the title of this thread was uncalled for. All it is, is a blatant attempt to put down Chretien because Mulroney is being disgraced once again across the nation with the release of Newman's book. Nice attempt at a drive by smear.
  9. The difference is that unions are democratic. If union memebers are not happy with their union leaders they can vote them out. What about corporate employees who don't want their company contributing to the Tories or the Grits? What are their options? Are corporations democratic? Case closed!
  10. The flat-tax you know, similiar to the flat earth society, but better known as the THE RICH PAY LESS TAX ventured into Germany's elections with disasterous results for the Right wing party. Popular flat-tax movement hits brick wall in Germany
  11. Norway swings to the left It is amazing what you can achieve when you work together. Canada should heed Norway's political savvy and go the same route.
  12. Norway’s opposition to form new government This is a very interesting situation. Great prosperity yet tax cuts rejected in favour of "the common good".
  13. Ben Welcome to MLW. It seems to me like the Liberals are just using an excuse to get it off the table. PM Martin wants to cozy up to the US, and basically have the US dictate what Canada should and should not do, so it seems the marijuana legislation is toast, don't you think? Cheers
  14. For example who is going to deal with the pollution problems in our cities if not government? The auto industry!
  15. So what have you done as a citizen? What are your proposals? Have you forwarded them on to your MPs? Have you dialogued with your MPs if you are that concerned? I agree pollution is a huge problem. Even out here in the Lower Mainland we have had some serious pollution recently because a large bog in the area caught on fire. One of the problems is that we are too spoiled. We demand goods from all over the world to feed our absurd consumer habits. What happened before we had access to all these foods for example that are not grown in Canada? We survived, we ate the local produce when it was in season, and we had cool storage areas so that they would last. Shipping them here contributes to pollution. Also we dismantled at lot of our rail system and moved everything to the roads. The trucks I agree create serious pollution. Whose brilliant idea was that? But when anybody suggests putting pollution controls on there is an uproar from the auto industry and the people who support them saying it is an infringement on personal freedom. Well nonsense. Vehicle fumes are starting to become like second hand smoke from cigarettes. And people say we don't need governments, eh!
  16. Uh, maybe because they are not the government. Jeez! And just out of curiousity what are your suggestions to reduce pollution?
  17. Dear shoop In case you were wondering I have put you on ignore and am not responding to your posts. 213 Cheers
  18. Dear Leader Circle I know you think I'm wrong however it is not what I think that matters, it is what Canadians think. Have you seen the polls for the Conservatives since Stronach left? Sparhawk mentioned earlier in his post earlier about same sex marriage. You talk about the importance of having policies but it is useless to have have policies if your policies are going to turn off the electorate. Stronach was one of a very few Tories who supported SSM which gave the Tories at least some credibility on social issues. Now she's gone and her absence helps to create an image of intolerant people in the Tory party. Your social policies are what is killing the Tories more than anything else. Because of the seat distribution in the House of Commons it does not matter, in the scheme of things, what the people in Alberta think, if they are in opposition to the rest of the people in Canada. It is what people in Quebec and Ontario think. Until you clearly understand that you will never get very far in Canadian politics. 133 Cheers
  19. Its about time that the media got tough with the Conservatives I think this MP raises a valid issue. 201
  20. I will say though that the title of this thread is misleading and inaccurate as the story we are disussing here is not about Tory MPs but about disgruntled current Quebec candidates, former Quebec candidates, and Quebec organizers. Unfortunately the thread titles cannot be changed.
  21. Dear kimmy I think the problem is a little deeper than that. Obviously if only four people go public with their complaints there are a lot more dissatisfied folks but they are just a bit quieter about it. And this is not the first time. What about Crosbie's outburst a few weeks ago? I felt from the very beginning that the Tories should have picked Stronach as leader. One of my reasons was that during the leadership campaign Belinda was popular in Quebec and was from Ontario so she could attract votes there for the Tories where the most seats in Canada are. Now that Stronach has left the Quebec section of the Tory party is crumbling which is impacting on the Ontario situation as well. Stronach's defection has seriously hurt the Tories as she was the one high profile person who gave them credibility in central Canada. Now that she is gone the Tories are paying the price, and the polling shows it. 87 Cheers
  22. This uproar from the Jewish community is very misleading. Apparently Jewish courts only dealt with two cases last year, so it is not as if a whole lot of people are going to be inconvenienced by McGuinty's decision to end the practice. Often when there is a big uproar over some issue when investigated it is discovered there are only a few people involved but becasue they control the name of some organization they sound like they represent vast numbers. 292
  23. Mulroney author of own folly This book looks good on Mulroney because he confirms what most Canadians think of him. It is sad that our political system is so bankrupct of good quality politicians. Mulroney is a perfect example of how much damage one person can do to a nation. Scary really.
  24. NDP to push pet policies, Layton says Sep 26 the first day of the new session is not that far away. Sounds as if it might get busy with lots of meetings going on between the various political parties. I'm glad as least one political leader is speaking out on behalf of the CBC.
  25. Keep classes on Jewish holidays: Prof It looks like McGuinty has opened up the Pandora's Box about the role of religion in our public institutions in society. Good, as it is about time we had this debate. Let's walk the talk, and secularise our society as much as possible, at least where it impacts other people not connected to that particular or this particular religion. Go Canada Go!
