Colorado Shooting during the Dark Knight Rises
WWWTT replied to msj's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Ya I guess Abraham Lincoln was laughing with Jefferson Davis about this to! And when most of the slave owners who wrote the American constitution, well they gave themselves a big pat on the back about how much they were looking out for the "little guy". How many of the signatory/slave owners/white anglo-saxon males consult with women,African Americans, muslim, catholics, jews, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, again as to what should be included into the constitution again? Conspiracy/intent to commit treason! Very much against the law and treason usually commands the most severe punishment! Just another reason why the American constitution was not thought through very well. WWWTT -
Will Justin Trudeau Cross the Aisle?
WWWTT replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
What really gets me is that many people want to promote Justin because of his heritage, and that is just plain wrong! It is unfair to those who have the wits and drive. Just another example of why the liberals are where they are. Its not my job to help this party,in fact its my job to do the exact opposite. Good luck! WWWTT -
Will Justin Trudeau Cross the Aisle?
WWWTT replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I am sure we can find examples that stick out.But they are not as common as you are making them sound however. I think there are a couple of ways of looking at this. I personally believe that being a successful political leader is more of an art form. This would explain why there is not many examples in Canada or the US.By the way when I say leader I do not mean senator,MP,congressman or MPP because there are many examples of these. And we are talking about Justin leading the liberal party as opposed to him just being an MP. The other way of looking at this I believe has not been mentioned. And that is the monarchy entitlement that many believe we left behind. WWWTT -

I'm not sure if you are insulting MD's,engineers and the building trades,or if you are insulting politicians? Lets broaden the scope of occupations shall we. Lets look at successful artists and musicians. Ok there's Woody Guthrie followed by Arlo Guthrie, uhm, who else is there? I'm sure there are others.I am not sure of artists, actors, comedians, etc, etc. True families share interests, but being a successful MD/electrician is not the same as being a successful leader! WWWTT -
US can not be effectively compared to Canada politically in this manner. First off,the US states have greater power in relation to their federal counterpart in comparison to Canadian provinces in relation to our federal counterparts. Secondly, there are many more US states compared to provinces.Ontario equates to roughly one third of all Canadians(33%).The largest populous US state California I believe equates to roughly 10% of all Americans. I believe the election rules are different to.In the Canadian parliamentary system,a sitting provincial MPP must first resign, then jump federally. This is very risky and discourages many! However in the US,the last governor/president George Bush, did not resign Texas until after he won the presidency. If McGuinty jumps ship it will be after he resigns provincial politics, which is very possible! Keep in mind that after the PC and alliance merger,Mike Harris was seriously considering making the run and may have circumvented Harper for the title had it not been for the findings from an Iperwash inquiry!(Ironic) WWWTT

Oh so now you believe it's the anti Harper vote that is the conservatives biggest enemy. Anything but give the NDP the credit that they deserve right? Here's an idea, maybe people vote NDP because they like NDP policy!Maybe the NDP relate to more and more Canadians as the conservatives become more and more isolated. If Ignatief Jr. becomes the liberal leader, you can kiss the conservative youth vote goodbye(pretty much the entire conservative swing vote to). Keep in mind that the growing NDP poll numbers are coming from citizens that vote! WWWTT -

True I do not know about him entering politics. I do believe many people did vote for him because of his name and celebrity associated with that name! But running for a seat and being the leader are two different things. If you support him then good luck.I personally believe he doesn't have what it takes to be a party leader. He relies to heavily on flash and glitter that worked for many politicians in the past.I believe that many voters have moved away from a TV/Hollywood images to a more reality based leaders. WWWTT -

Ok then, don't pay your taxes and see how much your guns will help protect you! Big difference between talking big and actually putting those words into practice. Oh and by the way, keep paying your taxes and do not point your guns at anyone or your government will smoke you! WWWTT -

Absolutely! Man do you think this guy would have ever entered politics was it not for Pierre???Or would he even ever get elected? If his dad was just another joe like you or I,he would still be a joe! Actually I would have more respect for the guy if he was only a joe. WWWTT -

Sorry, it should have read "Whole Life" I hope that finding an error in grammar has added some meaning to your life. Thanks by the way WWWTT -
Wow I never even thought of him making the Bob Rae like jump back into the federal arena! He did have success with the tories in the later part of the 90's to. But if he leaves Quebec provincial politics where will the Quebec provincial liberals be?How will his departure affect Quebec? Perhaps I am not fluent enough in Quebec politics to extrapolate any involved ideas about this scenario? I will give Charest this,he does seem to be popular, and perhaps after seeing Jack Layton's success he may have regretted leaving the tories. WWWTT

Ya these are hard questions for me to get my head around! But on the other hand I think that McGuinty's shelf life as premier of Ontario has expired(or soon will be) and Ontario voters will be looking for fresh blood soon. I would imagine that McGuinty will be stepping down in the near future and a loss in Kitch./Wat. may very well the nudge that could send him packing? WWWTT
-
Yes I am only going on a hunch. Political timing might be too strong against him from making the jump. In another year or so there could be another Ontario election. There will be a bi election in Kitchener/Waterloo to replace Elizabeth Whitmer soon and that can have some influence on his decision. WWWTT

If Jack was not able to pull of that 2011 result (and if he did not die) I am sure that his leadership would be up for a strong review! I believe I was a supporter of Jack when he first was elected leader.I believe my support for him strengthened when his wife was elected to parliament a couple years later to. When I met him when he was a Toronto councilor I am not sure I felt as strong about him.But I was young then. But ya you are right,I guess Jack was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. But he did not ride his fathers name(I never heard of his dad by the way). WWWTT -

About the possibility that Dalton may throw his hat into the leadership bid for the federal liberal party. WWWTT

Will Justin Trudeau Cross the Aisle?
WWWTT replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
When I first heard this rumor I liked it. But now I hate the possibility that this guy who has never worried about money in his hole life would come over to the NDP. If this guy ever came over and tried to win the leadership,I would fight him tooth and nail! WWWTT -
I am not debating if the liberals can change poll numbers. I am suggesting if Dalton McGuinty is hinting that he may make a run for the fed. lib. leadership. True I do not believe that they will be in any position to forming government in the next decade at best. But I do believe that an experienced provincial leader from one of their previous hot bed support regions would be a logical decision. WWWTT
-
HAAAA!That's freekin funny! It will be a long long long long time(more than likely never)before the liberals are in any position to put together any form of Canadian government! The liberals are looking at a long road ahead in rebuilding. The best case scenario would be to prevent or slow down the bleeding support to the conservatives and NDP.I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss this possibility. Its not like as if the liberals have a wealth of options to choose from. What they need right now is "steady Eddy" with their hands on the wheel. Just an idea I'm tossing around anyways,as far as I'm concerned this party is in the gutter begging for lose change. WWWTT

Was just watching McGuinty talking about some conference coming up soon about gun violence or something along those lines. He started his speech in French. This may sound nothing out of the ordinary, but I do not believe I have seen him do this often,if ever? The first thought that came into my mind is that he could be starting to practice his French language abilities in public to prepare himself for something bigger he may have in mind. And that would be making a run for the federal liberal leadership! Many here may dismiss this. And this is a hard one because of how his current minority government position can play into all of this. But I strongly believe that he believes he can be maybe the strongest of three possible candidates. Any thoughts out there? WWWTT
