The Liberals. Are scrambling. To cling to power. By distorting. Facts. And demonizing. The competition. Because it worked. In 2004. We did not make this up.

The issue with private clinics are the ones in which the government doesn't pay on your behalf but you pay out of your own pockets such as the one tht Paul Martin goes to. The Quebec govt. doesn't pay the clinic for services rendered, it comes out of Paul Martin's own pocket and it's not cheap. Anyone in Ontario can go to the clinic that Leyton went to because it's covered under Ontario's healthcare system but this is not the case with clinics like the one Paul Martin use and the fear is that there will be much more clinics opening like this (and they are) and they will be raiding the public system for the best doctors because they can pay doctors more. Therefore, you would have a two-tier system. One in which richer people can go to these private clinics and pay for the higher-quality services, while everyone else (who can't afford the fees) will using the public healthcare and often with longer wait times and lower quality service. Rovik that's an antique and quaint argument, but simply unsupported by any factual evidence: so says the supreme court of Canada.

Liberals have "jumped the shark"
JerrySeinfeld replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
agreed - but whichever point you pick - I haven't seen the Liberals running scared like this for over a decade - and I have to say its gleefully refreshing. I can't wait to see Anne McLennan, Scott Brison, PAULL MARTIN, and the rest of the smug Libs who think they've a divine right to govern...sitting on the OPPOSITION side of the house. -
You guys, both conservative and lefties are ALL missing the real story here: If Layton DIDN'T know it was a private clinic, that even makes the argument for a PURELY public system even more ridiculous. If the country's self appointed champion of PURE public care isn't even AWARE that he used a private clinic, then why campaign so vigorously against private clinics at all? What's wrong with private clinics? Again I read backyour own words: "Did he pay money? -- No. Is the institute for profit? -- No Was his service covered 100% by OHIP? -- Yes" So what exactly, Jack Layton or any other lefty, is the issue with private clinics?

Anyone out there ever heard the hollywood phrase "jumped the shark"? It refers to a particular episode of "Happy Days" when the Fonz attempted to jump over a shark in a water-skiing stunt. That particular episode is looked back upon as the beginning of the end of "Happy Days " popularity. From that point forward, in Hollywood the phrase "jumped the shark" refers to the moment in a hit series when the storyline/cast ceases to be confine itself to the roles and stories which made it popular to begin with - ie. it goes too far. For example: when Murphy Brown got pregnant, that show had definitely "jumped the shark". Why do I bring this up? To me, the moment that the "Stephen Harper Wants Soldiers With Guns On Canadian Streets" advertisement was leaked, the Liberals and Paul Martin had "Jumped the Shark". In other words - they crossed the line and are no longer being taken seriously by the public. Comments?

Today's liberal scandal.... Tony Valeri
JerrySeinfeld replied to Bakunin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
are u blind? the inflated price valeri recieved was a kickback for government contracts/loans given to ng's father -
We are a country obsessed with being PC (politically correct). We steal the best and brightest from thrid world countries, turn them into cac drivers and then revell in calling ourslves "multicultural". We legalize gay marriage, not because we believe in it but because we don't believe in anything else. We talk a big game on peacekeeping but don't have a military. We hate americans but depend on them. We are a joke on the international scene but keep thinking everyone loves us.

I have seen similar figures at the UK govt's Home Office website. Also, Chicago and Washington, D.C. banned handguns and both cities saw their crime rate skyrocket. You'll have to pry it from my cold dead hand, Liberals. Do you think I am going to go downtown at night in crime-infested Saskatoon without being armed? Do you think I am going to live in this city that has the highest robbery rate (per capita) in Canada, and the US, without protection? There are thugs who hang out in front of the ATMs and there are homeless drug addicts who sleep inside the ATM area of the banks. It's bad enough that mace is banned. I know many women who are scared to walk downtown (and other areas) at night--and I don't blame them one bit. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I am a conservative, but I'm not sure what you're gettin at. I admire much of the u.s., but guns are not one of them. I agree the Libs gun registry is a farce, but i don't agree with Canadians becoming armed civians as in the u.s.

Oh, that lying liberal media
JerrySeinfeld replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That is your entire problem: you rely on right-wing extremists to spoon feed your opinions to you. You don't look for or even consider the opinions of people who take a balanced view of things and are capable of understanding issues from different pespectives. Ibbitson is certainly not a conservative columnist in your definition of the term (i.e. he thinks about issues and forms a opinion based on the facts rather than regurgitating right win gmantras). However, Ibbitson frequently ends up siding with the conservative view of things. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's rich coming from you, who claimed - on the NDP refuses to denounce secular extremist thread - that the ring Svend Robinson stole was only $5000, when it was, in fact, worth over $50,000--which I had stated in my OP. Then you attempted to smear rightwingers by claiming that Fred Phelps of the Godhatesfags website was a rightwinger, when in fact he is a registered Democrat. Perhaps if you visited some rightwing sites for some balance, instead of devouring the pablum that leftwing extremist sites spoon feed you, we might see more from you instead of the constant regurgitating of leftwing mantras. Please think for yourself. I did a search and read some of Ibbitson's op-ed columns and he is not a rightwinger; he is a centrist. If he was a rightwinger, he would be linked to by rightwing sites - like I pointed out - but obviously you were unable to connect the dots. And I have no choice but to be exposed to both right and leftwing views--considering that Canada's media is overwhelmingly leftwing. You, OTOH, don't have that option, so you will have to show some ambition and check out rightwing sites if you want to see "the other side's" views. Try it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Harper has no personality. Remember when Mulroney stood up in the debate and said (paraphrase): "you sir (turner), have no monopoly on patriotism! i grew up in this country, I come from a CANADIAN family...etc" That's what Harper needs: some backbone! Enough of the Libs taking Canadian nationalism as their own rallying cry. -
Could be, we have to be sensitive to cultural differences you know. Australia did say no to Sharia Law, and were firm about it. I'm surprised at this one. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm sure the women on the other end of those beatings are thrilled at Austrailia's "sensitivity"

Hey! Why is everyone in such a big rish to get rid of the minority situation? Sure, I can see it if your a politician looking to rest on your ass for 4 years. But what about voters? Haven't we seen some pretty positive things since the minorty has been around? For one, the Liberals have been lees smug than usual. I know its hard for them, but they have been at least ATTEMPTING to appear as if they aren't a dictatorship (a la Chretien). The most recent budget was the first I can remember that contained tax cuts. And politicos are being forced to suck on eachother's you-know-whats on a pretty frequent basis to get deals done. I mean, I'm sure Brison likes it, but your typical Jack Layton or Paul Martin types look pretty funny doing the love-in thing. Isn't it kind of fun seeing these guys dance for US for a change? Who is with me? Let's keep the minority thing going in perpetuity!!!

This Election Could Be Really Scary

Ontario makes me laugh. They continue to gobble up whatevr baseless drivel the Libs feed them. Steal money in Quebec? Sorry, just a small wrinkle that we need to iron out. Health Care? Even though we have slashed health care and allowed two tiered health to flourish on our watch, it's the evil conservatives who will ruin the system. Peacekeepers? We finish 33rd between Benin and Turkey on our troop contribution to UN peacekeeping - and far behind the U.S. and Britain. Mutliculturalism? We Fetishize our imigrants to the extent that we appoint a citizen of FRANCE to the highest office any Canadian can hold. Don't worry Ontario (pat on the head), we Liberals are the nanny-one-party-state and if you don't vote us in again, it'll all dissappear. Hilarious.

Conservative Governments
JerrySeinfeld replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Alberta's low tax, business friendly, poineering environment is the reason so many eastern corporations have chosen to relocate their head offices to Alberta. Your negative tone is precisely the type of attitude we try to extinguish from our beautiful province. -

Conservative Governments
JerrySeinfeld replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
What planet are you on buddy? Alberta has NO sales tax and a 11% flat income tax which may soon be zero. So your idea of our government "taking too much of our hard earned money" is retarded. Alberta rocks. We are the richest, most innovative, hardest working and most practical -- not to mention beautiful, place in Canada. Deal with it. -
Conservative Governments
JerrySeinfeld replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You're right Stan -- manufacturing is an industry that will be a thing of the past in developed countries as third world countries compete with cheap labour. Anyone who thinks a manufacturing industry that was basically built on trade barriers and relies on cheaper and cheaper labour is sustainable is kidding themselves. Alberta, on the other had, has potetially more oil than anywhere else on the globe. As oil becomes less and less available Alberta will prosper even more in future years.
