F-35 Purchase Cancelled; CF-18 replacement process begins
Derek 2.0 replied to Moonbox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Source? If they purchase additional "Super Hornets", they will go to Fleet Replacement units as attrition reserves or the Blue Angels, as there are no USN legacy Hornet squadrons converting to Super Hornets. -
New Hampshire Primaries 2016
Derek 2.0 replied to Big Guy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
That would depend on the project and the individual......and their health. -
I read, somewhere, that Sanders still jogs and swims.......by looks alone, IMHO, Sanders appears more healthy than Trump.

New Hampshire Primaries 2016
Derek 2.0 replied to Big Guy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I believe age isn't an issue in the New Hampshire primary, or the overall race......Sanders is only five years older than Trump, and six years older than Clinton.........the current Vice President is only a year younger than Sanders. ------------- I expect Trump will win, but only barely just, with Rubio on his heels........I also expect Sanders to win over Clinton, but by a far closer margin......I doubt Cruz will finish in the top three of the GOP race. -
In fairness to Sanders, Trump and Clinton also have lots of money, which clearly can make someone appear more "youthful".........with that, watch Trump/Clinton during live speaking events, at times, they both appear to be reaching for their next words and sometimes "scattered"....contrasted with Sanders, that appears very natural and comfortable, and rarely seems lost for words.......it could be an indication of their "age" or Sanders decades long experience as an elected official......... If Sanders discloses personal health information, and has a clear bill of health, I see no reason why being a few years older than some of the other candidates should mater.

What happens if the power goes off?
Derek 2.0 replied to Argus's topic in Health, Science and Technology
Oh even a dirty device exploded offshore would create havoc and fear, even if it resulted in little or no deaths. -

They wouldn't even need a large hydrogen device, a stolen tactical nuke or dirty bomb detonated inside a container in a major port (or offshore) would do the trick and send the entire World into a panic. -
What happens if the power goes off?

I know, and its an unfounded worry. And North Korea won't commit National Suicide by exploding a nuclear weapon over the United States and not expect a nuclear response......... As I said, I'd be far more concerned with the prospect of a terror group smuggling something nasty into a major US city, then a nuclear power launching an attack on the United States. -
So would I (If I could, maybe his reelection ), from the start, both Rubio and Bush have been my "ponies".....From my understanding, through friends working on his ground game in Texas, his game plan going into the Primaries was called the 3-2-1 strategy....meaning, they wanted to finish third in Iowa, 2nd in New Hampshire and 1st in South Carolina etc......on paper it sounds workable, as we've got to assume the GOP field thins even more after New Hampshire (down to 9 now), and many will endorse Rubio......who now has more endorsements from sitting congressmen, senators and governors then Bush........follow the endorsements and the money will follow........ As I said earlier, if you transfixed the supporters of Bush, Christie and Kasich (and maybe a basement dweller or two), Rubio would have bested Trump and likely Cruz in Iowa........the big question will be who Carson endorses when he drops out or runs out of laundry......Rubio or Trump.
-
Of the entire field, I think Rubio is probably the one with the most substance (perhaps tied with Bush), and unlike Bush, has no problem conveying it.
-
Though I agree with hardly anything he has to say, he does seem far more genuine than Clinton, but 74 isn't as old as 74, 35 years ago, when Reagan was sworn in weeks before his 70th birthday........to me, Trump appears far "older" than Sanders.
-
I have no issues with Christie either, he reminds me of a Soprano character, but I think he has too much baggage, in addition, his perceived relationship with Obama would alienate him with Southern Republicans.....Attorney General perhaps?

What happens if the power goes off?
Derek 2.0 replied to Argus's topic in Health, Science and Technology
The use of a NEMP device wasn't intended to knock out protected military equipment, but to disrupt military communications, radars etc temporarily, during the ensuing nuclear strikes......knocking out civilian infrastructure was but a bonus..... And that is why its both a remote threat at best, and would require more than one device, something in the realm of only a very few nations.....simply put, there is no definite answer, as there has never been a full scale test. Again, its a rather moot point, as repairing said infrastructure will be of little concern after a nuclear strike. -
Trudeau Government accused of Ethics breach?
Derek 2.0 replied to Derek 2.0's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You did.......if an appointment spans an entire four year mandate of a Government, who cares? As I asked, of Harper's last appointments, how many will run through the entire Trudeau mandate? Is the concern Trudeau won't have a go at patronage? The point, all previous Governments had to live through the previous Government's appointments........and to the best of my knowledge, no previous Government has made a similar effort as the Trudeau Government to get them to resign so they can put their own guys in place........ So why is this Trudeau Government in such a rush to stack the deck with their own appointments, so much so the PMO is bullying said appointments into resigning? -
Trudeau Government accused of Ethics breach?
Derek 2.0 replied to Derek 2.0's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't know, you tell me......how many are starting 3 years into Trudeau's mandate, versus continuing on with their current positions? -
I didn't hear much about this going into the primary: In essence, some Cruz Staffers sent out mass emails suggesting Carson was about to pull out of the race.......I'm not a huge Carson fan, to me he seems both soft spoken and odd, but none the less, this just strengthens my opinion that Cruz is a weasel....... And it just makes it more likely that Carson, when he does drop out, will endorse someone else........If Bush, Christie, Kasich and now Carson supporters got behind Rubio in mass, he would have a commanding lead over Trump and tons and tons of money.

Starfish Prime, from ~350-400 miles away from Hawaii (about the distance from LA to Phoenix) screwed up Hawaiian telecom, which was only slightly more advanced than coconuts and string, but didn't knockout the Hawaiian power grid............The extrapolation to send North America back into the stone age, more and bigger bombs than Starfish Prime. -

Today's infrastructure is vastly more protected than what was found in the 19th century.......somehow, we've managed for the last ~150 years. -
Odd that a grandson of Cuban refugees would hold animosity towards the Castro regime.......none the less, Rubio's contention (along with most in the GOP) over Obama's Cuban policies is that he sidestepped the legal process of going through Congress and not receiving any human rights concessions from the Castro regime in exchange for lessening the sanctions.

I have no idea, I would assume some of the hundreds of appointments PM PM made had a tenure of 4+ years. -

And what process is that? A committee selected by the Liberals, selecting from a shortlist penned by Liberals perhaps? -
Trudeau Government accused of Ethics breach?
Derek 2.0 replied to Derek 2.0's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Survive? Are you suggesting Trudeau would fire them? Put them in jail? So Paul Martin's appointments were illegitimate, and Harper would have been right to remove them? Why would any skilled person desire to take such an appointment if they are going to lose their job with a change of Government........... Further to that, who makes appointments if under a PR system we end up with continual minority governments with short lifespans? Would a Government with only a term of 18 months be able make appointments with longer tenures? -

Why is it unlikely.....you don't think a unfriendly Senate would hinder's some of Trudeau's proposed legislation? Why? -

A contrast between renewing contracts versus stacking the Senate, a move that could have sandbagged the entire Trudeau Government........ When did we start voting on patronage appointments? -
Trudeau Government accused of Ethics breach?
Derek 2.0 replied to Derek 2.0's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
And he did. They aren't legitimate? So why doesn't Trudeau just replace them instead of bullying them into resigning....if they aren't legitimate he should have zero legal barriers to remove them.
