The NDP's "Boots on the Ground"

I see, so unreported crime is increasing........I don't suppose you have any statistics to prove that.....oh wait, its unreported -

Who cares!!!! As linked by Waldo, all forms of crime have decreased by 23%........if this trend continues for another decade, we should be looking at cutting police officers, not hiring more!! -

Yet, from your CBC story's link, overall, all violent crime, in all its forms, decreased by 17% over the last decade........furthermore, non-violent property crime has dropped by 33%, other criminal code offenses have dropped by 1%, drunk driving by 7%, the trafficking of pot down 30%.........all forms of crime within Canada have dropped by 23%.............So equate why this requires thousands of more "boots on the ground"? So what gives with Mulcair's envisioned police state? Is he beholden to police unions or what? -

Is it though? What of all the "social justice warriors", progressive university students and poverty activists that comprise a portion of the NDP's base.......could they flock to the Liberals? Nope, C-51 and Bill Blair.........but the Greens? -
The NDP's "Boots on the Ground"

Right, I get the notion of political BS.........but I can't fathom why the NDP would promise 2500 more police, making upwards of six figures each, when crime rates are declining, and with the same financial outlay, they could hire probably close to double the amount of social workers, addiction therapists, outreach workers etc......... -

Accept, he clearly stated 2500 Police Officers........... -

So Mulcair is talking hokum? What about: So the NDP isn't going to fund thousands of unneeded police officers across Canada? -

Indeed, I wonder if Mulcair's "boots on the ground" will arrest those guilty of drug offenses and illegal protests? -

I personally have no qualms with the NDP doubling down on the Tories "Law & Order" agenda........Are you suggesting Mulcair's "boots on the ground" is just an election ploy? Or would the NDP fill the prisons built by the Tories with their thousands more police across Canada? -
So Mulcair will keep an iron grip on his party, decide policy himself, because the public can't handle the truth?
-
The public or his own Party? The question was in relation to stifling the party policies of the NDP.
-
Case in point the Green's Bruce Hyer....

The NDP's "Boots on the Ground"
Derek 2.0 replied to Derek 2.0's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Is it? The Tories were criticized for building more prisons despite falling crime rates, yet when the NDP promise more police officers, its a different issue? As I said, what requirement is there for more police officers when crime has been decreasing for decades? And why, outside of the RCMP, is the Federal Government responsible for hiring more police officers, for various communities, across Canada? Is that not why we pay taxes to our Provinces, cities and towns? -
To clarify, you feel a Prime Minister Mulcair would use the same level of control over his MPs, a fault Prime Minister Harper is accused of?
-
I'm forced to laugh at all the past claims of a Harper police State, when I here this from the NDP: I would have assumed the NDP to have thought loafers or Roman sandals worn by social workers and addiction counsellors would be more fitting......but no: I thought many decried the Conservative approach to crime prevention............why is the NDP promising several thousand additional police officers, when crime rates, including violent crime, is decreasing across Canada? Why are the NDP attempting to address an issue that isn't an issue? And to think, there are those on the left that accuse the Tories of pimping fears among voters. What is behind Mulcair's pledge for more "boots on the ground" across Canada?
-
What double standard? The NDP have avoided going into depth over their own policies, furthermore, removing the detailed list of past resolutions from their own website.......... Now answer the question, are you suggesting that Mulcair would govern over the NDP in the same fashion as Prime Minister Harper governs over the Tories? Also, that NDP Government policies, as selected by their party membership, would be adopted or discounted solely by Mulcair's selection?
-
I can't think of a similar right-wing leader, of the same extent as Thatcher, in any other Western Democracy since....well....Thatcher..........Her own Conservative party eventually gave her the boot.
-
Who cares if Mulcair is like Doer? Mulcair has voiced support for Thatcher's economic policies, which are night and day compared with the NDP's own policies. Not with Harper as leader........are you suggesting Mulcair's leadership reign over his own Party is the same as Harper? Would NDP MPs become Tom Mulcair's trained seals in a Mulcair Government?
-
You realize he's running the NDP right? Or do you feel a Prime Minister Tom Mulcair would abandon policies both voted on and passed by the NDP membership in their own policy conventions? If so, why? Thatcher never concerned herself with more social programs like national daycare, quite the opposite, she felt socialism was great on paper, until it run out of other people's money to fund it.......So what does Mulcair agree with Thatcher on, and what does he oppose? ---------- People have raised the question on Mulcair's views on Quebec.........if Mulcair is a disciple of Thatcher, no worry, he'll just use the Army and Special Forces to round up and imprison, or in some cases kill, any would be militant Quebec Nationalists.........
-
I wonder if Mulcair also supports Thatcher's methods for dealing with collective bargaining? Or if Mulcair agrees with Thatcher's support of various third-world strongmen? Or if Mulcair supports Thatcher's methods of waging war against foes, in particular, the use of unrestricted submarine warfare? Clearly Mulcair is full of surprises..........I wonder why this video never surfaced during his leadership run? I would hazard a guess, it might have changed the outcome and how Social Democrats view him.........
-
No it doesn't.......the largest expenditure the Forces have is personal.......empty hangers, munitions bunkers and runways do not equate to large personal outlays and in turn, money.
-
Its home to NFTC and surrounded by farmland, as opposed to a city with an international airport. Huh? We already own Goose Bay, SAC was kind enough to build one of the largest runways in the world there, its surrounded by training areas, has a surplus of infrastructure that would allow rapid expansion if required and is connected to a seaport with a container terminal........
-
And said "very large area" could be covered by the current resources in Winnipeg being moved to Moose Jaw and Trenton. No one there? Both Canadian and American units are continually forward deployed to Goose Bay as part of NORAD, NATO and AFGSC...........Goose Bay is a far more vital location to the defense of North America then Winnipeg.
-
Why? In terms of personal and units based there, it has been since the Wall came down, coupled to our European NATO partners drastically reducing the sizes of their own air forces.
-
Actually no it isn't, the majority of former UN Peacekeeping mission Canada took part in are inexpensive when contrasted with equally sized combat or NATO missions......hence why the bulk of UN Peacekeepers are contributed by Third World nations, that and the UN provides a stipend to Peacekeepers, in the case of many of the Third World Forces, acting as pay. None the less, at the height of Canadian Blue Beret Peacekeeping, our contributions never totaled more than ~5-10% of our total force structure......as such, there would be plenty of military to cut...
