  1. You should read up on our local politics. Taxes proposed are on a referendum vote as we speak. Don't confuse the two. It's silly.
  2. Vancouver is a very progressive community when it comes to supporting the lgbt community. And it sets a great example for countries around the world. Kudos to them.
  3. Thanks for your expert pysch analysis.
  4. Oh please. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women. Breast cancer is just a sexy organization to attract funds. Why would you throw out a conflict between the lgbt community and cancer anyway?
  5. OMG!! Run for your lives.
  6. I don't think that was the only reason. According to her past portfolio she has done a lot of work for the NAACP. As they have said, you don't need to be black to belong to the organization. In fact some of the founding members were white.
  7. a petition is underway to transform the Burrard St bridge into a colourful rainbow to show the support given to the lgbt community. This would make it the largest pride rainbow in the world. Pretty awesome. I can't copy the link because I'm on my smartphone.
  8. You do realize your post smacks of ageism. Plenty of women in the workforce are past the childbearing age. In 2012 individuals in the age range of 45-74 represented 71% of the workforce. And of course you can do whatever you want. You are only obligated to do what you feel is right And just.
  9. Why are we even discussing the ratio of male tellers vs female tellers. It seems to be about equal to me whenever I visit a branch and the opportunities are equal for further promotion. I see just as many female tellers as male tellers and they are both on their personal career path to managers in that branch.
  10. This is an issue that I have really struggled with. On the one hand, she grew up with adopted siblings of the ethnicity that she now identifies with. She witnessed to some extent the discrimination they faced. She felt more comfortable living in the 'skin' of 'african americans' given her upbringing. I can see that she had great empathy for the issues they felt, hence the direction her career took. Good for her. And if we leave it at that, it doesn't seem to be a problem for me. However, I understand that she brought forth accusations of hate mail etc that has been not proven and the police in Seattle have even cast doubt on those accusations. This is a very interesting case of human behaviour that I think needs further empathy and analysis. I am not prepared to cast judgement.
  11. I heard an interview on cbc radio today and the woman being interviewed (can't recall her name) suggested that some Canadian parks, rivers, bridges, islands etc could be renamed to honour the legacy of FN's people. For example, here in BC, The Queen Charlotte Islands were renamed Haida Gwaii in honour of the Haida people. The renaming was part of a reconciliation process between BC and the Haida people. Discussions are underway in Calgary to rename the Langevin Bridge to instead a name honouring FN people. "Langevin, a father of Confederation, was insistent that Natives be forced onto boarding schools to ensure they join civilization. If you leave them in the family, they may know how to read and write, but they will remain savages," he said in 1883." Not only is a bridge named after him, but other landmarks as well, including a school. Perhaps as part of the reconciliation process, we can adopt some of these suggestions as was done in BC.
  12. Ok, so I watched about 3 minutes of this video and I thought it was simply a ratings game. You seriously can't hold any sort of serious commentary to this segment of 'The Talk' or 'The View' or whatever it's called. It's simply disguisting for women to celebrate men's penis' to be cut off.
  13. Really? Ok, then. How can I argue against that. Seriously, it's better to give up early then to debate someone with this mentality.
  14. If you are not a lawyer for the govt, you should let these victims testify to their abuses so they can heal and move on and if there are a few discovered who are not truthful, so what. They will be in the minority. We should apologize and compensate for those who have suffered.
  15. You are suggesting that sexism doesn't exist for women to battle in most occupations in Canada?
  16. And you haven't provided examples of sexist situations against men in science.
  17. I have no idea what you are talking about because a) I don't watch 'the voice' and I have no idea about this 'feminist group' I have no idea about the story behind this dude's dick being cut off Can you provide substance to this?
  18. What a ludicrous statement. I'm asking you to identify sexism towards men in the scientific community. Can you?
  19. Women don't fear the competitive nature. They don't have much patience for the constant beat up mentality of some men towards women defending their rights.
  20. Why would you think you understand it far better than OGTF?
  21. Well, I have certainly tried to take this conversation further by asking posters why they question FN's statements and I have yet to hear credible responses except that they are only looking for a payout.
  22. Ok, So Hal? And if he doesn't respond, I'm not wasting my time on his post. And the reason I won't waste my time is because he doesn't address anything relevant.
  23. These questions are silly until Hal provides credence to them.
