Black Dog
The point is each day in Sudan, Mauritania, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Egypt, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Somalia, Syria, Lebanon, and Algeria to name but a few Muslim countries, human slavery is engaged in and thousands of Muslims are arrested and tortured for having the wrong political views or for being feminist, gay, communist, involved in labour unions or heaven forbid should be Christians, Bahaiis, or someone not of the right Muslim sect. The same trendy leftists who support these regimes suspend their value system and simply pretend these countries are not oppressing and violating the human rights of all the above people. Okay: who? Give me examples. I know this is a popular talking point, and while I recognize some on "Teh Left" (to use the incredibly broad and poorly defined categorization popular here) are a bit monomanical when it comes to Israel, the suggestion that someone who opposes human rights abuses in one area would support them in others is, frankly, ridiculous. I've said it before and I'll say it again: the left is at the forefront of human rights causes around the world. They're certainly further ahead of the game than most of the usual suspects in the right, who's sole interest is in scoring political "nyah nyah" points and who really couldn't give a flying fuck (see: Iraq).
