As we might know, the Japanese economy is booming quicker than Alberta on steroids. It is quick the contrast in the United States, where the economy has recently hit a recession. With every purchase of an eletronic or Japanese car, we send money to Japan every year. Now, if this trends continues for a decade, we could see Japan overtake the US and become the country with the highest GDP in the world.

Now, the question remains: Do you think this would happen?

No, it will not happen. Japan thought it had the world by the ass back in the '80's and lost their lunch on US real estate.

Japanese automaker production in the USA counts as American GDP.

BTW, the US economy is not in a recession.

Economics trumps Virtue.

Japan's population is 125 million and dropping. The population of the US is 300 million and rising. No amount of economic growth can compensate for the growing population differential.

That said: a melt down in the US dollar could cause the nominal US GDP to drop rapidly when compared to Japan's. However, this would not affect the PPP GDP which is the widely accepted measure of GDP today.

To fly a plane, you need both a left wing and a right wing.

It may lead to the situation that GDP per capita will be higher in Japan .

It already is in Norway, Luxembourgh, Ireland and Alberta plus a few small islands. There are a few countries/regions that have more wealth than the US on an individual basis.
