The ads have already been filmed and they criticize Dion's opposition to the recent Tory budget, reports The Globe.

Polls showed Canadians widely approved of the budget and the Conservatives hope the ads will help them capitalize on the support.

Sources tell The Globe that the ads will run during the two weeks of Parliament's Easter break -- which begins Monday.

I wonder if Harper will even wait for a confidence vote. He might just call an election anyways.

The Globe says the Tories are planning a longer campaign.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...y/National/home

They said there are three scenarios being debated.

Three election scenarios being considered by the Conservatives:

The government falls on April 20 for a June 4 vote. This will be the most difficult time frame to achieve. Even though the polls look good for the Conservatives and the results of the Quebec election suggest they could make gains in that province, they could have a difficult time engineering their own defeat.

The government falls in late December. The Conservatives emerged victorious from the last Christmas vote and could repeat their good fortune this year if the right conditions exist. This would be the best choice if the fall session proves divisive.

The government falls in February, 2008, after the next budget. This would give Canadians an opportunity to reap the tax benefits the Conservatives included in this year's fiscal budget such as the child tax credit. But it also would require operating within the constraints of a minority for a prolonged period of time.

They can take as long as they want, voters who want them out will vote that way and if Harper keeps doing what is doing, there will more peeved-off voters.

True but more people will also see that Dion isn't much of an alternative.

There isn't really any party that most people can safely vote for other than the Conservatives in the next election.

Liberals look to respond for Tory attack ads.

http://www.canada.com/topics/news/politics...1398bf5&k=37511

- The federal Conservatives are preparing to unleash new attack ads on Liberal Leader Stephane Dion, but this time the Grits could have some ammunition of their own.

The Liberals have been developing election-campaign themes and political ad concepts and testing them with focus groups for a few weeks. Some of the concepts are for negative ads attacking Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Conservative government.

You can see the latest anti-Dion French ad on Youtube here.

IMV, it's not as good as the English ads. I'm not so sure the end line works right: "Avec les Conservateurs, le Quebec prend des forces."

BTW, it appears that the Conservative Party central office uploaded the ad themselves to Youtube.

More than appears. They did upload them.

The ads just may help Dion and go against Harper. When it comes to being French or being Cons, Libs or NDP, which do you think comes to Quebec first??? Quebec can say thank you for the money and vote against Harper!!

Wow. Another Dion flip flop.

OTTAWA -- Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion insisted yesterday that he will not stoop to negative attacks against Prime Minister Stephen Harper, even though he appears to have suffered from a barrage of attack ads by the governing Tories.

This guy has flopped on almost everything he's stood for at one time or another.

The Liberals need a new leader and fast. Who would vote for this clown?

That's not fair!

Sadly the 30% or so of voters who will vote Liberal no matter what will support Dion.

To be fair, he hasn't flip-flopped yet

Almost three thousand people died needlessly and tragically at the World Trade Center on September 11; ten thousand Africans die needlessly and tragically every single day-and have died every single day since September 11-of AIDS, TB, and malaria. We need to keep September 11 in perspective, especially because the ten thousand daily deaths are preventable.

Television ads... how tiresome. Same old crap using the same old medium to address the same old voters with the same old policies to the same old problems and the same old games to support the same old policies and the same old subsidies.

I haven't seen a Canadian political ad in over ten years. I didn't even know they even bothered with this crap any more. It will be nice when we have a leadership group that isn't pandering to a 1970's view of the world.

Good for you..

Parties bother with political ads because they work more often than not.

btw If you haven't seen a Canadian political ad in over a decade how do you know they are crap?
