So, what do YOU think?

(P.S. One day after the Federal budget that announced a huge bribe for Quebec and no tax relief, Charest is making a campaign promise to cut taxes in Quebec. Is it just me, or is that kind of ... disgusting?)

As some one who with children will have a fair amount of relief....I will say that you are as funny as the current season of Airfarce.....

Alberta and Quebec are made for each other. They both try to play the same game and whine about the other doing it.

No sympathy for separatist rhetoric. Alberta drinks from the same koolaid as they serve in Quebec. It is all about what's in it for themselves and screw anybody else who doesn't like it.

Actually kind of fun and entertaining when they do it to each other. ;)

P.S. I always find it amusing that Albertans and Quebecers constantly talk about how they get shafted by 'the rest of Canada' and how Ottawa is always out to screw them. And of course, that Ottawa government is 'jammed' down their throats. But of course, no one ever mentions that all of the Prime Ministers going back to the 1960's have been from either Alberta or Quebec (exception was Kim Campbell for a day or two). Funny how that works.

Better check your facts. Diefenbaker and Pearson (both PMs in the 60s) were born in Ontario. So was Harper. Your statement of Alberta and Quebec playing the same game is silly. Alberta has always willingly paid more than its fair share, like Ontario. The difference between Ontario and Alberta is that Alberta has to stand up for itself as it was severely screwed in the past by the NEP that tanked the economy and cost thousands of jobs. Being from Ontario where the votes are, you'll never have to worry about something like this.

In real terms Harper have done minimal to help Alberta.

However, looking at this in relative terms, the plans the opposition has for Alberta would be very costly. And therefore when looking at the alternatives have actually done well.

What a load of crap.

"Albertans" may bitch about many things, but the Alberta government has eternally and officially been a supporter of all things Canadian, including massive equalization payments. Guys like Klein and Stelmach have been nothing but cooperative while the province keeps the boat afloat, and the vast majority of Albertans feel the same way. If they didn't , we'd have told you to stuff it long ago.

The government should do something.

Tell that to that Geoffrey fellow who posts here often enough with his UberAlberta schtick.

I've heard plenty of noises about separatism from Albertans. Same koolaid as they drink in Quebec. Same game.

What I find of Harper is this.... he did everything he could to not make the former Liberal government not work so HE could be PM. He made a deal with McKay to bring the Cons and Alliance together, so HE could be the leader and HE could be PM oneday. As PM with a minority government, he's made deals with Quebec, so HE could hold on to his minority government or hopefully secure a majority. (I'm sure he dreams of this every night!) if there was an election. HE is making sure the family oil business is taken care of in Alberta. It's reported that HE has total control of the Conservatives and what they say and do. Perhaps he will find that not ALL Canadians will support him next time around because we have seen how he plays of being the PM. The people of Quebec can say thank you for the billions and vote against the Liberals in Quebec. I don't he is as honest as he says they party is and its just a matter of time when this will come out. The war will probably be his down fall.

Harper own's an oil business, that's news to me.

Topaz are you just making up some pleasent fiction to feed on to your paranoia of Stephen Harper?

Since we all know you have a history of it.

What oil business. I guess you would like to see thousands in Alberta lose everything. Actually so would I. To many people and most of them new comers were not here at the time of the NEP. Send them packing back to Ontario or where ever they came from and dump them onto their welfare roles. That will leave the rest of us in Alberta to get Alberta out of this toon country.

B. Max, I would say you are going way to far. Alberta is a part of Canada, the same as all the other provinces. I wouldn't say that we have been treated fairly, but I would say that the vast majority of Albertans aren't interested in leaving Canada.

As for Alberta playing the same game as Quebec, you couldn't be farther from the mark. When has Alberta campaigned to become some sort of sovereign nation within Canada (I still don't understand this). When has Alberta demanded that everything in the country correspond with our own language while refusing to do the same? When has Alberta failed to contribute to the general well-being of the rest of the country?

The answer to all of the above is never. Alberta is one of the few provinces that puts out for the betterment of Canada, whereas Quebec sits in their little french cafe's complaining about how they have to be a part of the same country as everybody else. They do nothing but pull resources from the rest of Canada.

Now, before people get all riled up and angry about what I'm saying here, realize that I'm not talking about the average, hard-working person in Quebec who has no problem whatsoever with Canada.

Your whole post makes no sense, aside from obvious spelling errors.

Relax........, gather YOUR thoughts and post something coherent!

YOU did forget to mention that HE(Harper) eats babies!

thank YOU.

Well, I think Harper's doing a fine job for everybody. He's running a balanced budget, paying down the debt and giving Canadians tax relief from the savings. For an average family in the past two years he's given you more than $2000 in tax relief ($100 a month for parents, plus another $600-$800 a year in tax relief for a family of four in the middle class). We can't make everybody happy all at once and if you have some patience perhaps it may be rewarded in the upcoming budgets. In addition, he has to play politics somewhat because he does have a minority government and if he were to not give in to some of the opposition's pet demands then he'd be playing political suicide. He said in the election that he plans to govern for four years and I think that's exactly what he plans to do, it's up to the opposition to bring down his government. If he had a majority he'd no doubt cut some social programs and give the savings back to Canadians in the form of tax relief. That's what his party stands for.

If you understand, no explanation necessary. If you don't understand, no explanation is possible.

The budget is running so high in spending that even the National Post and Sun newspapers are shaking their heads.

Even with all the spending in the budget, many critics says it is sure to rise as more of the environmental programs are unveiled and for when the election *actually* begins.

Uhh, i you got the analogy wrong. *even* implies that the Post and Sun would be the last papers to complain about high spending. They are in fact the first to complain about high spending, regardless of the party in power.

Is the Spending High or not? Do you agree with this level of spending.
