August1991 Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 Who have we got on this forum? We'll have a benchmark when the campaign starts in fact. Quote
Canadian Blue Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 I am currently a member of the New Democratic Party, but I'll probably vote Green, for a few reasons. Atleast until the NDP can perhaps get a new leader that can better articulate the policies so they can reach out to more Canadian's than the few ideological ones. geoffrey Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 I take it since we don't have any BQ responses, that August is the other Conservative voter at this time? Interesting reflection on a large demographic, perhaps? Quote RealRisk.ca - (Latest Post: Prosecutors have no "Skin in the Game") --
August1991 Posted March 16, 2007 Author Report Posted March 16, 2007 This should answer your question.link Sorry, Blueblood, I didn't notice your previous poll.Any way, we should do this every few months to see what new posters think and to see if regular posters have changed their opinion. I selected BQ this time because that's how I'd vote now. I'll probably vote ADQ in the Quebec election. Given my riding (and modern democracy in general), my choice will change nothing. I still usually vote for the fun of doing it and talking to the polling people. In the 2004 federal election, I was a scrutineer for the Conservatives and had a nice chat with the BQ woman at the table. (The untalkative Liberal showed up at the end only to get results.) Quote

Adam1980 Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 Say green, but reluctantly. I'm not into the recent rash of "liberal" style spending Mr. Harper has recently undertaken. I thought him doing quite well until recently. And Dion is not impressive to me in the least. That only leaves Mr Layton; a good leader I think, but I seriously wonder what sort of thing he would be spending on. Quote
PolyNewbie Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 I would vote for Canadian Heritage Party, Canadian Action Party, the Libertarians or any other fringe group. I know mainstream aprties are working against my interests so if there was no fringe party I'd vote Rhino. Quote Support the troops. Bring them home. Last poll I picked my Liberal candidate, today I lean towards the Harperites, Tomorrow I might be undecided again......... Keepitsimple Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 I'm voting Conservative. The main attraction to me is the respect that they show the provinces with regards to Provincial areas of juristiction. As Canada progresses into the 21st century, this is becoming more and more important. As it should be with any organization, I think it's important to have clear roles and responsibilities - who is responsible for what. Healthcare and Education (including Childcare), among others, are services that the provinces are responsible for delivering. We are so very fortunate to have 10 mature Provincial governments who can try out new approaches in these areas and see what works best. The Federal government can facilitate information sharing and allow "best practices" to be developed in these areas. A "one size fits all" approach doesn't work in Canada. Each province can learn from others and take what works best for them. The Liberal approach was always to withhold money for these services and then throw it at the provinces before elections and claim to be champions (fix healthcare for a generation comes to mind). The provinces hated that approach and were always demanding money to fund their responsibilities. Make no mistake about it, it's precisely this paternalistic approach that has bred separatist sentiments in Quebec, Alberta, BC, and Newfoundland & Labrador. Another issue that is bubbling to the surface is the state of our relation with Native Canadians. For decades we have thrown money at First Nations and Innuit. Clearly, this has not worked. Kelowna was nothing more than a continuation of that same, failed approach. We need a fresh start. It's complicated but there is enough money in the system - some $9 Billion per year. There are some tough leadership and accountability issues to deal with within the Native communities. It's a sensitive area and one that will not likely change overnight - but we have to start a process of incremental change that will lay a better foundation (Education) to bring Native Canadians into mainstream society while providing support to traditional communities. Cooperative and open Federalism. It's exciting. I'm looking forward to a Conservative majority so we can get away from the partisan sniping and get down to work. Having said that, I think a majority Conservative government will allow the Liberals to truly get their party back on the rails. When all is said and done, Canada has always been more successful with two competitive, principled parties. Quote Back to Basics
Canadian Blue Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 I voted Green in this poll, but I'd be willing to vote New Democrat. If the NDP can find ways to get out the more positive points of their platform to people in the working class, and average families, I think they can grow beyond 20% in terms of popularity. Too bad the Rhinos are gone. Now the only jokes come from LPC/CPC. I recall some Rhino Policies but thank heavens for Wiki to remind me of some others. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhinoceros_Party_of_Canada repealing the law of gravity, reducing the speed of light because it's much too fast, paving Manitoba to create the world's largest parking lot, tearing down the Rocky Mountains so that Albertans could see the Pacific sunset, or moving them one metre west as a make-work project, legalising pot. And pans. And spatulas. And other kitchen utensils, building sloping roads and bicycle paths across the country so that Canadians could "coast from coast to coast", and my personel favourite adopting the British system of driving on the left; this was to be gradually phased in over five years with large trucks and tractors first, then buses, eventually including small cars and bicycles last, Quote
Kapitän Rotbart Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Shucks, the poll does not have my pick. If I could vote for a fringe group, I would. We haven't had a fringe group in Ottawa South for a long while, surprisingly (longer than I've been a legal voter), so I vote according to the roll of a dice. Whichever number comes up, I count down from the top and choose that one. I feel that no major party reflects what I want. The conservative comes closest to this... note I said conservative, singular. I like Steve Harper, but I find that a lot of his company are not holding onto the conservative values on which the party was founded. Dion looks a lot like Mr. Bush... I'd love to get a picture of them side by side. It might be worth voting Dion in just for that. Until the fringe and/or rhino parties run in Ottawa South, I might as well roll my dice. I do like the conservative more than any other major party, but the Canadian economy was ironically doing better under His Satanic Majesty Paul Martin. BC_chick Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Interesting results in this poll. Just goes to show something I already knew..... the ratio of conservatives on this board are over-represented compared to the general public in Canada. Internet polls notwithstanding, every polling agency across Canada has the LPC and the CPC pretty close when the question is asked: If a federal election was held today....... Yet on this forum, we have close to 50% who would vote for the CPC. Quote It's kind of the worst thing that any humans could be doing at this time in human history. Other than that, it's fine."
