The transit pass tax cut is worth roughly $180 a year. That's a big tax cut, consider it alone outdoes the Liberal tax 16-15% cut for someone that rides transit.

This is probably the best policy that the CPC has come up with. I fully support this policy.

Almost three thousand people died needlessly and tragically at the World Trade Center on September 11; ten thousand Africans die needlessly and tragically every single day-and have died every single day since September 11-of AIDS, TB, and malaria. We need to keep September 11 in perspective, especially because the ten thousand daily deaths are preventable.

OTTAWA — A Liberal government would cut income and business taxes, not the GST, Stéphane Dion said Thursday in a speech to the Canadian Club of Ottawa.

This is much better than cutting the GST, IMO.

This is assuming the Liberals will actually keep this promise.

First they said they'd get rid of the GST, now they want to cut other taxes. Liberals aren't usually in the business of cutting taxes, so i'll believe when i see it. Talk is cheap, especially in politics.

Sure...and it's also assuming that the Conservatives will actually keep their promise to cut the GST to 5%, so I'll believe it when I see it.

Think about how easy it would be calculate GST on purchases at 5%. We should do it just for that reason alone.

That's awesome!

But people would have to know how to divide by two ...

Then increase it to 10%. You don't need to know how to divide by 2.

naaaah, most people are bad enough at math to begin with...let's not take away the one opportunity where people actually calculate something without a calculator. If the GST is cut to 5%, IQs will fall proportionately

Could do that.... but then calculating tips is harder.

There you go! So we get rid of the GST and raise income taxes.

Are we to move to Alberta to do this? That might be a bit expensive. So I will keep the penny. This 1 cent cut to the GST is a penny ante crap to begin with.

I forgot that the rest of you pay an extra 6-8% on things. My bad.

So what will Steve and Jimmie "borrow" from the Liberal budgets? I know that I saved close to $400 in my tax bill for 2005 but in 2006 my taxes on my pay stub increased.

Or get rid of the GST and cut transfer spending?

What transfer? To provinces? Fine by me. Pay off the debt.

Cut transfers to persons - OAS and UCCB. Get rid of GST.

Ahhh, so now Conservatives are "borrowing" sound fical policies and tax cuts from the Liberals.

I do believe that Minister Flaherty would consider Jimmie and insulting and condescending term.

We know that the Liberals provided massive tax cuts throughout their term in office. But the Conservatives on this forum either refuse to acknowledge it or their memories are too short.

It's not a matter of ignoring it. Just recognizing the fact that it was a blatant theft of right wing policies at the time.

No need for blanket insults...
