Remiel Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 Am I bad person for wanting to take people who use the nouns " woman " and " women " as adjectives, and slowly roasting them on a spit over a hot fire? According to Wikipedia, English and other Germanic languages do sometimes allow nouns to be used as adjectives, but I do not believe this is one of those cases. Whenever I read something like " a woman President " I see red. I mean, imagine reading " a man President " which sounds just as bad and is even more obviously wrong, and uses the exact same structure. Not that anyone on this forum is guilty of this transgression, but it is something I see far too much in the media these days. Quote
Charles Anthony Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 I agree. People should say "a womanly President" or "a manly President" instead. I suppose they could say "a womanizing President" or "a manizing President" too. Quote We do not have time for a meeting of the flat earth society. << Où sont mes amis ? BC_chick Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 I suppose "female president" is the correct way to state it. But I guess each person has their own pet peeve, I hate using male/female in everyday usage of the word - it sounds so clinical. What is your suggestion? geoffrey Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 How about we ignore gender and just realise that they are President?? Gender descriptors are out of touch with the reality of today. Quote RealRisk.ca - (Latest Post: Prosecutors have no "Skin in the Game") --

Last I checked, there was still a difference. Quote "I think it's fun watching the waldick get all excited/knickers in a knot over something." -scribblet
