sideshow Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 Makes for a good photo op and probably gets a few votes. Imagine what kind of hospital you could build and outfit in any of many needy rural areas of Canada-the same place where the people paid the taxes to amass that 200 million. Quote

Maybe even something as simple as ten beds, a few diagnostic machines, and a even *oh my!* a doctor and nurse? Might not seem like much unless you live in the rural area or are visiting and need a bit of care. As a capital cost, it may not go super far-but much further than sending it to build sand castles for others. Quote

I agree, isnt the new one they want to build in south calgary going to cost just shy of a billion or something?? Quote An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last -- WSC
HistoryBuff44 Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 You know, so many people need reminding of what happens when you let tyrants get away with things. a little event known as world war 2 occured because the world decided to let Hitler get away with breaking treaties and doing bad things. and he gave plenty of warning of what he wanted to do, it was in his book mein kamf. we have the same stuff today, islamic extremists have shown what they intend to do, we cant let them gain power over there or soon they will bring the fight to us more regularly. Have you seen the footage of what they are doing in Iran. young kids are being taught to hate and that its alright to kill people AND that they should to get to heaven. every now and then Glen Beck shows this on his 1 hour show on CNN. that footage doesnt get aired here unless he shows it. we cant let them get powerful and consolidated over there or this fight we have now will be nothing compared to what would come. we have got to think more than 5 minutes in front of our faces. Wilber Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 a 200 million hospital? would be very small. Over there you could probably build something that suits their needs pretty well. You don't need the latest greatest everything to do a lot of good for people who have nothing. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC
geoffrey Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 I agree, isnt the new one they want to build in south calgary going to cost just shy of a billion or something?? Yup, it's a big one though, huge. A private public partnership as well, so the real cost is actually much higher (the Alberta government get's in trouble for using debt financing even when it's appropriate... so they hide it in P3's). But really, it's going to be 15 mins from where I'm at, the High River hospital is only another 15 mins and waits will be hours less. Bah. Wilber Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 A complaint has been that they have been putting too much into the military end and not enough to reconstruction. Now that they are, guess what, not good enough either. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC

Topaz Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 Do we REALLY know the money that Canadians will be sending to Afghanistan? There's the 200 Mil, another 100,000 they gave for coats for the Afghan army and there's the 1 BILLION over ten years and we all know that Harper has said he's committed to 2009 but the truth is he's committed for long than that. Harper has taken 51 Bil out of the IE because of the very large surplus. I think Canadians better keep an eye on this government spending, we know of the PC's spending but we don't know how the Alliance spend and Harper is no PC'er or Conservative, 100% Alliance in his thinking! Dion hasn't said we are leaving in 2009 either, just that we are walking away from Kandahar regardless of the circumstances. He also maintains we should be doing more on the reconstruction side instead of a combat role. You guys aren't happy either way. Take your piggy bank away and you have a tantrum. When did Harper take the EI surplus. All I ever hear is that he is being criticized for letting it grow just like the Liberals. Surplus Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice".
