I guess I really can't be surprised this has happened, is it that have we not being paying too much heed to that particular part of the world lately and perhaps they wanted to get our attention?

Do they really want to provoke Israel into retaliating after what happened last year, not likely, as I can't see that particular course of events unfolding as Israel is not going to fall into that trap.

I see this as a ploy to divert attention away from their own infighting.

IDF troops from Engineering Battalion 603 were searching an area along the Israeli-Lebanon border, north of the Israeli community of Avivim, for explosive devices. On Monday, five bombs were discovered and detonated by soldiers and the IDF said it believed Hizbullah had been planted along the border in recent days.

Hezbollah must really love watching the suffering of it's own people.

Lebanese Hezbollah guerrillas say four explosive devices found by Israeli troops on the border this week were placed there last year.

Although

The Israeli military said army patrols were thought to be the intended targets of the explosive devices.

But, yeah they were the targets. Last year. But, at least they were found and disabled.

I think all Lebanese politicians like to see their people suffer, or are congenital morons.

Look at last week. An Israeli bulldozer apparently crossed the border, I suppose by accident. It crossed 14 meters over the border, which is what, a couple of times the length of the bulldozer, and Lebanese soldiers shot at it. The Lebanese president then congratulated the soldiers for "defending Lebanon", as if the Israelis were invading Lebanon with a bulldozer or something. Can you imagine any troops from a civilized nation firing at a bulldozer which has just crossed the border? And their government then lauding their brave and noble work? That could have turned into a big firefight, the Israelis could have sent in tanks, and the whole mess could have gotten much worse, and no doubt people would have blamed the Israelis.

On the bulldozer part.

Israeli usage

The Israeli Armored D9 — nicknamed Doobi (Hebrew: דובי‎; lit. teddy bear) — is a Caterpillar D9 bulldozer that was modified by the IDF and Israeli Military Industries to increase the survivability of the dozer in hostile environments and enable it to withstand heavy attacks. The main IDF modification is the installation of an Israeli-made armor kit which provides armor protection to the mechanical systems and to the operator cabin. The operator is protected inside an armored cabin, with bulletproof windows to protect against bombs, machinegun and sniper fire. The IDF also developed an armor add-on to deflect RPG rounds. The fitted armor package adds roughly 15 additional tons to the production-line weight of the D9. Individually modified D9 bulldozers may be found with disparate features, such as crew-operated machine guns, smoke projectors, or grenade launchers. The Israeli Engineering Corps uses the D9 for a wide variety of engineering tasks, such as digging moats, clearing landmines, mounting sand barriers, building fortifications, clearing terrain obstacls and opening routes to armored fighting vehicles and infantry, as well as leveling small buildings.

The purpose of the dozers and the armour that is on them indicated they are combat vehicles and go into hostile situations. Dozers are good for destruction of buildings and such. I'd have fired at it too. It is still a violation of the border any way you look at it. too bad they did not capture any Palestinian militans. (I know it was the Lebanese border, just checking to see if you are still awake.)

Any time you are near an Arab it is a hostile situation. As for you firing on anyone who crosses your border, hey, congratulations on being a redneck texan. "He's on my propertay! I gots me a right to shoot him dayed!"

Well actually I am a Canadian. Hippy-ish, yes, but not redneck by any nature or intent. However, the situation there is that shots are fired more often than reported in the MSM. From both sides. So when you live in an area of the planet that has seen nothing but war, strife and intense human suffering for decades, then you might understand why it's 'shoot first, ask questions later'.

Nice picture in that article. I wonder whether or not the phallic symbolism was deliberate. :o

Given the history of the place, I think I would want to be in an armoured bulldozer no matter which side of the border I was on.

If it wasn't intentional when it was taken, it was intentional when it was chosen for the article.

Surely this is unprecedented....right?

"It used to go like this … We would send a tractor to plow some place of no value in the Demilitarized Zone knowing, in advance, that the Syrians would start shooting. If they refrained, we would instruct the tractor to keep on advancing, until the Syrians lost their temper and started shooting. Then we would start firing artillery and, later, also send our air force." - Moshe Dyan quoted in Ahron Bregman's "A History of Israel"
