geoffrey Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 The Cons environment plan is sh#t, plain and simple. It will go down in history as the #1 mistake of this government, mark my words. Nah, income trusts taxation will. My question, who's got a better plan or a track record to oppose the CPC plan? The yanks did way better than us over the last 13 years. The Liberals are pretty much barred from even speaking on environment. NDP? Haven't heard an ounce of constructive comment on the environment, just 'this is unacceptable!' over and over from moustache man. What is their plan? Oppose the PM seems to be enough in their minds. That's the beauty of never having a chance to form Government! Argus Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 Let's not waste each others time. Layton is quoted as saying that Harper lacks "urgency". In light of that, my description of Layton saying Harper doesn't take Global Warming seriously enough is quite sound. Funny how this wasn't really even an issue in the last few elections. Suddenly, to some people, it overshadows anything and everything else and is desperately urgent. Now that Conservatives are in power. Urgency? We're talking about a 50 year timeline here. Is there something wrong with planning, consulting and figuring things out before you start off on a 50 year journey? And Layton is just posturing. What's his proposal? A ninety percent cut in emissions? Gee, why not 100%? It's only a little better. Surely he can promise a 100% cut in emissions - except even to a blowhard in love with the sound of his own voice that sounds laughable. And how are we going to cut emissions by 90%, Jack, especially as the country continues to grow in numbers through open immigration? Well, Jack has the answer. "Uh, we will, uhm, encourage alternative energy sources through ah, er, creative policy initiatives which uhm, require industrial polluters - yeah, them, those bad people, those filthy capitalists - cough-cough, I mean, which require industrial polluters to cap their emissions!" Which says NOTHING, of course, but hey, it'll hold for a few years, and it's not like Layton is going to be answerable come 50 years when it hasn't worked. If Layton actually cared about the environment he would develop an actual workable plan which could be implimented and which would have achievable goals. Instead, it's clear all he cares about his political manoeuvring. When people have nothing else to talk about, they talk about the environment.Global warming is a problem but the world is not going to melt tomorrow. --- Harper is wisely compromising. We'll see where this leads. I think the NDP is acting in good faith. Prime Minister Stephen Harper has agreed to an NDP demand to put his Clean Air Act before a Commons committee, where the opposition will try to change it radically.NDP Leader Jack Layton made the demand during a meeting with Mr. Harper late Tuesday, saying the minority Conservative bill was “dead in the water” because the opposition parties would vote it down. Charles Anthony Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 Harper is wisely compromising. Why? 1) Does Harper fear losing a confidence motion? 2) Did Layton make Harper see the light with respect to the wisdom of NDP enivronmental policy? 3) Does Harper see this as a safe way of delaying any action on the environment? I say that the third makes the most sense. If nothing gets done, nobody can blame Harper. Furthermore, the Tories can try to woo the Green Party voters the same way as the NDP are trying to do. Canuck E Stan Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 ......and a 2050 target is going to allow him to appear as if he's taking it seriously. Nope. The target IS 2050, like it or not. Read my lips,Harper,Layto,Dion,Iggy, and even Rae have made 2050 the target date. How can you take any politician seriously, if you want to see some other target date other than 2050? Time to join the Green party and stop pretending you're a Liberal.
