Ladyjen Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 After following American elections for the past 10 years I am amazed at the media down there who are now lobbying to sway the right wing to vote the current regime out. Lou Dobbs is my new hero. This guy is a millionaire a few times over and was the host of CNN's Money Line (bored me to death). Dobbs is a rich and powerful man who has stepped up to the plate to speak up for the middle class which is, let's face it, most of us. Why should he? He is obviously a man of deep thought, integrity and cares deeply for his fellow man and the future of his country. It seems too that when Dobbs took on this role, the rest of the media jumped on board and we started to see more and more networks following suit in the quest to oust Bush. As an immigrant myself I was, at first, disturbed when he started to speak out about Mexicans illegally entering the U.S. My Dad came to Canada as a skilled laborourer who would not have had to work for less money than Canadian machinists. And therein lies the difference and the current problem. Dobbs is fighting Corporate America from bringing the standard of living down to the poverty line for most of us, because what goes on down there, comes right back up here. Quote
geoffrey Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 Why fight corporate America, they provide all the jobs? This is the problem with the rise against the man socialists... they can't live without their paycheques. You want the big bucks, take the risk yourself and go into business. If not, deal with the treatment. Quote RealRisk.ca - (Latest Post: Prosecutors have no "Skin in the Game") --
Ladyjen Posted October 26, 2006 Author Report Posted October 26, 2006 Your response was a bit knee jerk but I will add my thoughts to what I think you are saying. Dobbs reports that 90% of the Gross National Product is outsourced to cheap labour around the world. How does that create jobs in the USA? It creates cheap labour at Wal Mart coupled with labour violations that their employees are fighting on a daily basis. Corporate America does not create the majority of the jobs, it's a well known fact that small business creates the jobs. Quote

You want the big bucks, take the risk yourself and go into business. If not, deal with the treatment. Do you think, for example, if WAL MART went away, there wouldn't be any jobs in retail ? The jobs are there because there's demand for goods and services. The relationship between the owners and the employees is a tricky one. It's important to keep in mind that the corporation's goal is to reduce costs, which include taxes and labour. At a certain point, the balance tips too far in favour of the owners but the question is - where is that point ? Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner
M.Dancer Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 Why fight corporate America, they provide all the jobs? Why no, they don't. Small to medium sized business provide the lionshare of jobs in both Canada and the US. Meanwhile, the single largest employer in the US? He's right to speak out against ILLEGAL immigration. Afterall, it's ILLEGAL. It hurts the country, especially by supressing wages for lower and middle-class workers. If your Dad came to Canada illegally, that's wrong as well, however, I'm guessing that he probably came here legally. Please don't mix illegal immigration with legal immigration. They're two seperate issues. Quote

You can't blame folks for trying to enhance their lives. But after watching Lou Dobbs explain the economic impacts of this, I feel it is very wrong and needs to be stopped. I am well aware of the difference between illegal and legal immigration. My Dad came here legally. Quote
Liam Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 I had the pleasure of meeting Lou Dobbs a few years ago (not just in a meet and great, I mean that we chatted over dinner at a business function for close to an hour) and I can say that he is one of the smartest people I have ever met. I don't always agree with his political opinions, but I completely respect his intellect. He is extremely impressive. Quote
