Argus Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 I think it started at the bottom of the heap. It is childish, either as flamebait or sarcasm. theloniusfleabag Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 Dear Argus, I reported this post as 'partisan trolling', but I found one thing odd...jbg seems to have lumped the 'accusation' of 'Zionist' in with other disparaging names for Harper, yet jbg claims to be a Jew from New York. Weird. The again, if he is just trying to be sarcastic, the whole thing is at best a waste of bandwidth. watching&waiting Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 This is a waste of band width. Surely we can find something that has more teeth to discuss here then this childish thread. I am all for some times having a little fun type thread, but this is not even rated at that low level IMOV. Quote

Especially when there are people on here who actually believe those things you posted. In retrospect, good point. I assumed my views on Harper (generally favorable or, for Canadians, favourable) were well-known. This link contains my real views on the issues most dear to me. kimmy Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 really? has harper ever had a "regular" job?..or has he always been a wonk? Wasn't he an accountant? From the wikipedia entry: Harper briefly studied at the University of Toronto before travelling to Edmonton, where he found employment in the oil and gas industry as a computer programmer in his early twenties. He later attended the University of Calgary, receiving a Master's degree in economics. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)

watching&waiting Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 Why would we not just say he is the leader of the Canadian government in this as well. He was elected even if it was to be a minority government and he has run the government in the way he promised and he is doing his best to bring about all the things he said he would do when he sought being elected. So I guess to the opposition doing the things you promised during an election is a bad thing? I would have to say that I find Harper and he methods of governing to be a new and refreshing method, as opposed to the days of the Liberals where there were scandels every week, and the government just going on like the scandels did not exist. They never stopped and acknowledged any of them because they had a majority government and that allowed them to just sweep things under the rug. Harpers new way of doing things is a breath of fresh air. Yes he does keep a tight ship and you do not see scandels coming every week or even every day. The best the opposition can do is raise a issue about an implied insult to an empty chair. That just goes to show you how well this government is really doing. Harper is not out here every week trying to sell something to the Canadian people because most of the people agree with what he is doing. There is no need to sell anything if it is seen to be the right thing to do. Only when things are bad for the people do you need to sell them on this. The people of Canada will when the time is needed will again look at all the things positive and negative about the parties involed and make they vote once again for the government. I have little doubt that the nest government will be a CPC majority. The Liberals will be fighting for third or even fouth position, with a total melt down of the quebec support, and hue losses in and around Toronto. This is my own view of things as they may unfold in the next election. Quote
Jerry J. Fortin Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 Keep watching. No government is free from the contrived or misbegoten steps of its members. Opposition parties use a microscope to turn mole hills into mountains, that is the regular business of politics. Harper has not been long in office and accomplished little so far. His government has had a few faux pas bad enough to rate media coverage, but not too many for the public to freak out, at least so far anyway. The environment issue will start biting him around the ears for no other reason than all of the opposition parties take a different view on the subject than the government does. In his minority position it would be expected that he form some sort of comprimise policy, but I don't think he will. This one issue could be the basis of his demise, because if he can't make this fly in the face of the opposition and refuses to make a deal he simply doesn't have enough brains to govern this country. The majority of Canadian votes were not in favour of his government, the people must be respected in this matter. Quote
