jdobbin
I suppose if there is enough new evidence, one has to move on it. Various media is asking Harper if he called the investigation because his own name was entered into today's affidavit. This stinks. We'll see what comes out of it. Still, I'm betting my money that this is a big smear job. shavluk
Its no investigation , as he just said. Smoke screen , damage control for the dense! Its an evaluation of the facts as he said and then a recommendation of what to do. Kinda what they should as government should be doing. I nominate who ever Harper appoints as our next Prime Minister!

Hopefully, we'll see more info on what this money was actually paid for and if the $2 million should ever have been paid out.
jdobbin
Was Mulroney a crook? Well I would like a jury to decide that, but if you look at the front page of the G&M today, it is plain that he is a liar. And now he is being investigated. Finally. fellowtraveller
The investigation I'd like to see centers on what exactly happened to a couple of hundred million bucks linked to Adscam. Where did it go after it hit the ad agencies? Why have no politicians gone to jail? Where are the forensic audits of Liberal riding associations? What would be said when you hook some electrodes to Jean Corriveaus pink bits? And so on.
Moxie
Smart move, once he's done having an "Inguiry" on Brian he will naturally want to investigate Martins transfer of his company to an offshore account. Mass firing of Canadian deckhands to hire slave labour from a third world country. This is good news indeed, if the Liberals want to waste our taxdollars investigating Lian Brian then they HAVE to accept the PM will investigate the previous PMs secretive goings on. Fortunata
If Mulroney didn't have anything to hide: Why were legitimate payments for work done or to be done made in cash in envelopes in hotels? Why didn't he immediately claim it on his tax returns? Why did he lie about it?

Why don't you ask Harper why there isn't an audit? Earlier this week, he and the rest of the Tories were scoffing at the very idea of an investigation into Mulroney. Perhaps he'll grant your wish. Seems to me that Harper didn't feel he was going to call any investigations until his own name appeared in the 87 page affidavit.

cpidgeon
After what the NDP did to Bev Desjarlais, it is hard for some in the province to forgive them. Bev Desjarlais was tossed by the grassroots of her riding in Manitoba. It wasn't the party that tossed her. In our riding if an incumbent that we elected to represent us as members of the party turn around and don't support the same things as the memebers I will not be voting for that person and thats exactly what happened to Bev. cpidgeon
On October 17, 2005, Desjarlais lost the Churchill NDP nomination to Niki Ashton, daughter of Manitoba cabinet minister Steve Ashton, in a vote of the membership of the Churchill NDP riding association.[16] She resigned from the NDP caucus on the same day, and announced she would run as an Independent in the next federal election[17] She acknowledged that her position on same-sex marriage was a prominent factor in her defeat. Can't get any more grassroots than that

Actually, I know her son and the establishment of the party wanted her out. The last time she was challenged in 2005, the NDP got Mercredi to back down. They actively sent in people from Winnipeg to campaign for Ashton's daughter after they removed her from her position in Ottawa on the same sex marriage issue. Desjarlais was sufficiently popular enough to still draw half the traditional NDP support away from the chosen candidate in 2006 election. It basically handed the seat over to the Liberal candidate. cpidgeon
How would you feel being a member of the liberals in David Emerson's riding after nominating the guy and a week after the election he crosses the floor. would you as a member support this guy in another nomination meeting

Your entitled to your opinion but there was enough bitterness about what happened that many traditional NDP grassroots supporters continued to support her and ensured Liberal victory in Churchill. She did not cross the floor. She was abandoned by her own party. Edited November 10, 2007 by jdobbin
