BHS Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 Localities can ban open burning, and flag burning would violate that. Where US courts have gone a bit ditsy is to state that Congress cannot regulate flag burning in and of itself as a vial activiity. The Supreme Court ruled as it did based on the premise that flag burning is protected free speech. As a result, flag burning would only violate an open burning bylaw if the perp had a big pile of flags he was trying to dispose of by burning, but a group of protestors burning flags at a rally would not be violating that bylaw - any charges pressed against them would get tossed. gerryhatrick Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 "Intollerant old farts"? Is that what people are who are offended by someone urinating on the memory of thousands of dead kids? No, that's what all the outraged old farts calling for their heads are. I'm offended, but I don't want to see the lives of these kids ruined like some of the intollerant old farts I've been hearing from. theloniusfleabag Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 IMR, I wouldn't take gerryhatrick's comments too seriously. I don't know what scares me more, these guys desecrating a war memorial or this kind of liberal indifference to it shown above. It seems to me that he is either just 'flame posting' based on his hatred of Harper (because he is conservative), or he is yet another incarnation of 'maplesyrup'. That being said, I would have kicked some serious ass had I been there. Even if I had came away bloodied and injured, I would have felt it to be the right thing to do. Those men gave everything to fight for us, so who is willing to stand up for them? Harper was right to condemn it publicly, and I hope everyone else does too. If people cannot show respect, they shouldn't expect to, nor receive it. Quote Would the Special Olympics Committee disqualify kids born with flippers from the swimming events?

If people cannot show respect, they shouldn't expect to, nor receive it. After the "single mothers" comment I had some idea of what I was dealing with. I should have recognized it from the beginning... I'm not sure what I myself would've done in that situation. I think I would've been paralyzed by shock. Just thinking about it gives me the feeling of being kicked in the gut. Some things go beyond anger for me. I just hope the guys didn't realize what they were pissing on. But I can't see how you wouldn't know. Quote "Liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to offer therapy and understanding for our attackers. Wilber Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 I like the idea of shipping them off to Kandahar to clean lavs for a month or two. No criminal record but sharing in a few rocket attacks with the people they pissed on might make the right impression. Put their summer vacation to a good use. betsy Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 They showed an obviously drunken guy (you could see his eyes rolling up and he was grinning like an idiot) pee-ing.....then yesterday, they showed the same photo but with the face obscured. I think running the photos in the papers and online in a humiliating way, plus giving their names and make them pay fines will be a much better punishment and deterrent. No need to use up jail spaces....reserve those for the ones we don't want roaming freely around. Quote

That's the youth today: Respect is a dirty word; Threats and talking smack are prized like they were trophies; Senseless violence against the innocent for no reason beyond in the doing; Pretentious mimicking of their parents 'roles' during the sixties (hippies, anti-war, anti-everything); Gang worship; Rock star worship. A whole generation of little snotty brats that never really grew up because society isolated those whose parents got divorced or were single, and then the parents either spoiled them or competed over them, convincing them they are all there is, ever was, or ever will be. IMO, a rebel without a cause is pathetic irony. . Quote
