Since Lincoln’s address at Gettysburg and in some ways even further back to their own secessionist origin where they broke their oath to the monarch, they have a rather hysterical obsession about any move to separate from their country. blackbird Posted June 16 Report Posted June 16 I thought Canada was a Confederation of provinces who joined by voluntary choice. As part of the agreement to form Confederation, I believe that certain powers were agreed upon for the federal government to have and certain powers were agreed upon for each province to have. Now it is clear the federal government, particularly under Trudeau senior and then Justin Trudeau ignore some provincial powers and unilaterally invaded provincial jurisdiction. This seems like a violation of the terms of Confederation. It seems a lot of people believe that Canada is a centrally-controlled dictatorship where Ottawa can do whatever it wishes. Ignoring provincial powers and jurisdiction is a dangerous path to go down. I would say there examples of this. One is the C69 bill adopted by parliament, that is, no more pipeline laws. Another is the cancellation by Trudeau of a proposed pipeline to the north coast back around 2016. Then there are other laws and taxes that impede or block the energy industry, which mainly target certain provinces. Quote
