robosmith Posted May 18 Report Posted May 18 This is the real reason why Trump is demanding increased NATO arms purchases. He wants to sell US Jets. Why The US Threatened To Take Over Canadian Airspace ... Simple Flying https://simpleflying.com › Aircraft 3 days ago — The United States has threatened to 'take over' Canadian airspace if the Royal Canadian Air Force doesn't purchase Lockheed Martin F-35 Quote The high-stakes standoff surrounding Canada’s fighter jet procurement reached a boiling point between January and May 2026, triggering what has been termed the Washington "NORAD Airspace Takeover" threat. Following Prime Minister Mark Carney’s decision to review Canada’s $14.2 billion deal for 88 Lockheed Martin F-35As, capping firm commitments at just 16 jets amid surging costs and severe trade tensions with the Trump administration, U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra issued an unprecedented diplomatic warning on January 26, 2026. Hoekstra explicitly declared that if Ottawa slashes its F-35 order to pivot to Saab's competing 72 Gripen E package, Washington will view the Swedish fighter as an "inferior, non-interchangeable" platform incapable of meeting rigid NORAD command-and-control requirements. The ambassador warned that the U.S. would be forced to permanently alter the historic North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) agreement, buying extra American F-35s to frequently fly policing missions deep into Canadian airspace to unilaterally plug the security gaps left by Ottawa. This geopolitical arm-twisting has exposed a profound rift over "defense sovereignty" versus "continental integration." While Washington views Canadian airspace as a critical backdoor to U.S. security that requires seamless, American-controlled data-link interoperability, the threat of an American airspace takeover has triggered intense domestic backlash in Canada. Saab has aggressively capitalized on this tension, offering to construct a secure, Canadian-staffed data center in Montreal to house the Gripen E’s source code natively, ensuring absolute software independence. As the Canadian military balances a leaked 2021 defense evaluation, which rated the F-35's raw capability far higher than the Gripen's, against the raw political cost of American military infringement, the 2026 NORAD threat highlights a brutal reality: for Canada, choosing a fighter jet is no longer just an aerospace decision, but a high-wire act of defending its actual national borders from its closest ally. John Stone Posted May 19 Report Posted May 19 (edited) ........... the degree of hate, resentment, racism and corruption demonstrated by the U.S. is truly revealing. The U.S. global power was literally designed, post WWII, by giants; FDR, Truman and Ike. Their genius imagined a World revolving around the emerging superpower, the U.S. It's designed strength was built on alliances, trade and ideology. They realized that although the U.S. might be the most powerful in terms of military, GDP, it was not as strong as the combined strength of it's allies. Can the U.S. remain 'great' and be alone? ah, no. Hormuz is a great example ............... alone. Edited May 19 by John Stone 1 Quote

And...why should Canada be trusted, if we dont live up to our agreements? NATO is falling apart. Something that should have happened decades ago. The biggest threat to Canastan is Libbie immigration and over-regulation. 2 1 Quote Its so lonely in m'saddle since m'horse died.
