herbie Posted June 4 Report Posted June 4 It's 100 miles away where the refined gas comes from. That's 320 km for the delivery truck to travel here and back Gas is 20c/L more here. 40,000L in truck X 20c/L = $8000 $8000 / 320 km = $25 per km. I didn't know diesel had gone up THAT much. All the logging trucks are still running..... someone should run the same truckload math on the loaves of bread, bags of chip and milk that are $1 more here. Quote
eyeball Posted June 5 Report Posted June 5 (edited) I'm burning around a $1000 a day in fuel. It doesn't seem to matter if it's with twin 300 hp outboards or 500 to 1200 hp with diesel. That's just driving around. Commercial fishermen are probably going through 2-3 times that much. herbie Posted June 5 Report Posted June 5 At least it's not an electric boat so you have to choose between electrocution and being eaten by sharks. The drivers hauling logs are singing the same blues lately. As well as the ranchers. The reduction over the last week means if I visit the grandkids, I can buy ONE of them a candy bar. Quote
eyeball Posted June 6 Report Posted June 6 It may well one day be electric boats. There's a fellow hereabouts putting together a boatyard that will, amongst other things, be building and converting boats to run on rechargeable batteries. herbie Posted Wednesday at 06:43 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 06:43 PM (edited) we already have a couple electric ferries. And trialed an electric Vancouver-Victoria plane. But electricity is not (yet) in the hands of speculators and resellers Edited Wednesday at 06:43 PM by herbie Quote
