gatomontes99 Posted April 23 Report Posted April 23 The Senator is arguing that HHS should not make cuts. His example is that rabies is dangerous and cutting the office would harm Americans. Kennedy, rightly, points out one person can handle the 1 to 3 cases per year. I argue that 1 person is too many. Because 1 person needs a supervisor. The supervisor isn't the director of the HHS so the supervisor needs a supervisor. All for 1 to 3 cases per year. Maybe just assign rabies to a blanket group (individual) that covers rare to non-existent diseases. Quote Don't you think that if I were wrong that I would know it?

Quote Rabies in the US is rare in humans, with typically 1–3 cases reported annually, though sometimes up to 10, primarily from bat bites. About 5,000 animal rabies cases are reported each year, with over 90% occurring in wildlife (bats, raccoons, skunks). Roughly 60,000 people receive preventative treatment (PEP) annually. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention | CDC (.gov) +4 Key Rabies Statistics in the U.S. Human Cases: Extremely rare, with 1–3 deaths per year, although CDC data has noted 1–10 cases in recent reporting. Fluffypants Posted April 23 Report Posted April 23 (edited) What does the office of rabies actually do? It was like when companies hire a DEI director, what is it about their day to day job that can't be done by Human Resources and a database. We had an entire staff for a super rare disease.
