ironstone Posted March 7 Report Posted March 7 It may not be a big concern from them as they apparently do have the raw materials for it although they still import some from outside the US. If there is any country in the world that can rapidly expand it's capacity to produce aluminum, or most other things, it's the US. The Trump administration is much less likely to get bogged down by red tape than the previous one. On the other hand, progress in Canada will be greatly impeded by years of environmental studies and red tape. Does Carney care? Not really since he chose to invest only a tiny portion of his own money into Canada. GPT-4o mini Raw Materials for Aluminum Production in the U.S. Yes, the United States possesses the essential raw materials needed for aluminum production. Here’s a breakdown of the key materials and their availability: Raw Material Source/Availability Bauxite The primary ore for aluminum, found in limited quantities in the U.S., mainly in Arkansas, but heavily imported from countries like Australia and Guinea. Alumina Derived from bauxite; the U.S. has some refining capacity, but the majority is processed overseas. Energy Sources Energy-intensive processes; the U.S. has access to various energy forms (natural gas, coal, renewable energy) for aluminum production. Hydro power is ideal, particularly in regions like the Pacific Northwest. Recycled Aluminum The U.S. has a robust recycling industry, accounting for a significant portion of aluminum usage, reducing reliance on raw bauxite. Quote Beware the Brookfield industrial complex...

Trump won't be president then and very likely won't even be on the planet in that timeframe. The next Democratic admin will cancel most of his asinine so-called policies anyway. There is a reason the US imports ~55%+ of its aluminum consumption.... an aged infrastructure and lack of readily available energy to power an aluminum smelter. 1 Quote
herbie Posted March 7 Report Posted March 7 Naw! Let them run down their stockpiles until they're desperate, then raise our prices. Like 50%, that would be 'fair'. 1 Quote

If you find that amusing then you'll probably get a laugh out of Canada's shortages in the pharmaceutical sector like painkillers and general drug shortages. About 75% of our pharmaceutical imports come from the US. Sounds like the US is in a great position to raise their prices 'like 50%'. That would only be fair, right? You didn't give this much thought, did you? 1 Quote Beware the Brookfield industrial complex...
