August1991 Posted March 4 Report Posted March 4 In Canada, we have three State pension schemes: 1) CPP/RRQ based on what you paid in. It is transferable between provinces. -You can claim from 60 to 70. 2) OAS based on years in Canada -requires 40 after 18 -You can claim from 65 to 70 3) GAINs -you f*cked up in life ====== Retired men sit in Tim Horton's. Retired women play card games. I strongly recommend people to keep working. 1 Quote

Retired women do most of the volunteer work in Canada. 3) I strongly recommend you get your facts straight! Quote
herbie Posted March 4 Report Posted March 4 Most retired people in these parts do 90% of the Community Volunteer work, running the Boars of the Shelter, Food bank, Seniors Society, Men's Shed, 2nd hand store,, Hospital Auxiliary, etc. Augie forgot to mention company pension and personal RRSP. If you get GAIN, you really are poor. Quote

People have been predicting the 'Life of Leisure' for decades at least. Brought about by automation mostly. But their predictions were (are) always off the mark. The rich have leisure as they always have. Many of the working class have lots of free time too. But it's called unemployment - they don't have the money for "Leisure". All they have is TV and Internet (a lot of which is destructive as we're seeing now). Fortunately we have some social programs to mitigate. But what will happen as AI and Robotics eliminate many more jobs, specially when governments won't adequately tax the new channels of profit making? Oddly enough, Richard Nixon advocated for a 'Guaranteed Income'. Maybe that's what it will come to. But as all those other predictions show, it's a Mug's Game. Quote
