August1991 Posted November 30, 2025 Report Posted November 30, 2025 Pierre Trudeau, Brian Mulroney. Years ago, I knew such people. They typically had to schedule their life. Secretaries. Robert Bourassa always had a beautiful woman. ===== Mark Carney, Justin Trudeau and Elon Musk still have a scheduling assistant. I have many scheduling problems to solve too. I have more choices. John Stone Posted December 2, 2025 Report Posted December 2, 2025 (edited) Artificial Intelligence, political hacks notwithstanding is capable of learning and most important - original thought. Don't laugh when I say that in the not too distant future, for some people, the laptop will be their best friend - marriage and even conjugal visits might evolve. The oceans will be littered with nuc powered weapons that will have dwell time of years. Fighter a/c will become obsolete - rather flying platforms will determine targets and conduct stream attacks with drones and/or missile Hollywood will be impacted in huge way - look ma, no bio actors (deep fake) Jobs - anyone that works behind a desk needs to be concerned (very) Unemployment will skyrocket - guaranteed income will be a debating point - people will be in the streets. I laugh when I hear, 'technology creates jobs' - how naive. The only limiting factor wrt technology is science. There could not be enough solar panels to power what is coming - fusion might save us. There are more people alive today on the earth than have ever lived on the earth - concerning? OMG Edited December 2, 2025 by John Stone Quote

OMG Dude, august isn't a bad guy and every now and then he's got something intelligent to add to a conversation. He goes through these little crazy patches where he brings up weirdly random crap and it's not really terribly rational. Most of us find it best to just let him go through it and engage with him when he's having his more lucid moments At this point it sounds like he's mad that he's missed another doctor's appointment and technology hasn't solved that problem for him. As far as technology goes every single time there's an advancement that's the one society says is going to bring down the fall of mankind. I've already been through the computers are going to destroy jobs and leave people out of work, the internet is going to destroy jobs and leave people out of work phases and I doubt AI will be any different from what I can see. Just promise him you'll tell him when his next doctor appointment is and let's go back to discussing things that are sane Quote "That which doesn't kill me... Had better start running."

But true, CdnFox, I dunno. ===== Years ago, I walked through the home of a rich American person in the late 19th century (Sarasota, Fla - Ringling). It had hot and cold running water. I recall seeing the bathroom of Louis XV. It had a tub. Versailles? It has a small opera room, similar to many home-theatre rooms in America today. Here's my point: What rich people did in the past, everyone will do in the future. ==== Except Elvis. We will not all have shag carpet. Quote

One thing is for certain ............. science and by extension technology cannot be controlled.........fission / fusion weapons are prime but dated examples. Those that developed those weapons weren't so much patriots as they were scientists trying to prove a point .......... to be FIRST. Someone once said, 'what is possible is done, what is impossible, will be done'. What is somewhat alarming is that some countries during this natural development will have no safeguards ...Democracies will make political and partisan arguments like they always do in pursuit of power. Advantage? Those that have no control or moral restraints. Edited December 6, 2025 by John Stone Quote

Nothing new in that. ===== But at present, Warren Buffet/Vladimir Putin/Woody Allen do not organise their lives the way that I do. I have to mess with cumbersome passwords, weird screens.
