Goddess Posted March 16 Report Posted March 16 I hadn't had a cat around since my kids were little until a year ago. I had always considered myself a dog person. But early last summer, I was driving to Canadian Tire and saw 2 kids swinging something around by a rope. Took me a minute to realize it was a little gray kitten. I drove around the block and came up behind them and jumped out of the car. "What the hell are you doing??Where's your mom??" I confiscated the cat, it was panting and screaming. I always carry a pocketknife, so I cut the rope off and drove it home. Then I realized, "Oh, sh!t. Now what do I do?" I didn't know what to call her at first and she was very hissy with me at the start "Aren't you a hissy little missy?" Anyways, I got her spayed and figured I was now into her for $250 so......now I have a cat named Missy. She has Scarlet O'Hara syndrome with food - "As God is my witness, I shall never go hungry again!" and eats me out of house & home and now I think maybe I am a cat person, too. 3 Quote "There are two different types of people in the world - those who want to know and those who want to believe." ~~ Friedrich Nietzsche ~~

August1991 Posted March 29 Author Report Posted March 29 We have few pet fish/mice/rats/snakes? But we love cats/dogs? Why did dogs/cats adapt/learn to live with us? -Dogs protected our territory from other humans -Cats protected our work from other animals About 50,000 years ago. Quote
herbie Posted March 29 Report Posted March 29 Cats don't burrow. They love to get into tight spaces, but they don't dig holes in the ground like moles or even like rabbits. And unlike chickens, if you put their front leg over their head, they're not so stupid they think they're dead. They'll assume you want to play with them. Quote

But mammals, we all burrow. In different ways. True, I have seen sparrows sit beside each other, and chirp But I have never ever seen a chicken burrow like a squirrel. Fish don't burrow. Ever. Quote

You and Missy are lucky. Missy is part of your family. My daughter's family had a wonderful cat for several days; then discovered it lived elsewhere. Scarlet? She has some issues, I think from being abused where she was before. When I get home from work, she runs back and forth from me to hiding, until she knows I'm in a good mood and not going to hurt her. But I'm earning her trust, and she is very affectionate, I think she knows I saved her. She is also a bit saucy. I'm training her to stay out of my plants and not knock things off shelves. when I tell her NO and GET DOWN, she will do it, but looks at me, annoyed, like, "You're not real mom!" herbie Posted April 5 Report Posted April 5 Neighbour on one side had a nice cozy chair on his deck my cat would sleep in all day then come home for supper. Sometimes he'd follow another's 3 cats into their house for their afternoon treats. Then my puppy startes the same thing, but he'd go home with 2 treats in his mouth to eat or bury them. Another time I found the neighbour's cat in my living room playing hids and seek from mine. When I called it's name, it bolted out the doggy door. They are xocial animals when raised properly. Quote

August1991 Posted May 20 Author Report Posted May 20 (edited) Squirrels - eyes compared to dogs, cats. Squirrels only have stereoscopic vision in a narrow front. But squirrels, compared to dogs/cats have remarkable side view. Squirrels view like fish. === Watch cats move their ears. (Old, I use my hand to move my ears.... ) My old ginger cat is deaf. I have to flash a light or bounce the chesterfield to get his attention. Edited May 20 by August1991 Quote
