My siblings and I, and all our children were encouraged to read as much as possible. Anything they found hard to understand ask your parents about.

Therein is the problem. A lot of parents can't or don't want to explain those things. 
And posting crap like that picture as if it's something in an Elementary Shool library is total shit. Senior High schoolers would laugh that off and some fool parents think they don't know or even talk and act like that normally. Even when they did themselves.

Nah, we never read Lampoon or Playboy and Penthouse or those 'underground' comics in Grade 11

I couldn't find the pictures you referenced but...

The system is built on dialogue and reasonable compromise.  I just chatted with a school official who wasn't aware of the details of the Alberta controversy.

That's a shame.

Of course there are culture warriors who don't want to ask questions, as evidenced on this thread.

They arrive at any discussion with a goal of painting the opposition as immoral, and walking away.  And they think that it's the right way to deal with problems.

Conservatives and liberals need to make sure that the process is so boring that these hot heads don't show up.

If they do, let them bleat for their two minutes then get back to the grown up conversation.

What is the reasonable compromise on putting smut into K-12 schools? There is no compromise, there is simply don't put smut into kids schools.

There are culture warriors like you who won't engage because you know your positions are hard to defend against logical fact based well reasoned criticisms, so you just push your positions and run away.
