Hakeem Jeffries and House Democrats are ready to seize on the first big leverage point of President Donald Trump’s second term, lining up against a bill to avert a government shutdown this week.

https://www.cnn.com/2025/03/11/politics/democrats-gop-government-funding-bill/index.html

Let's talk about what will likely happen if the democrats DON'T vote for the CR that will prevent a government shutdown.

But first, we have to talk about what normally happens in a government shutdown. The government doesn't shutdown. The government keeps going. The military is still doing it's job. The FBI and CIA are still on the job. The Dept of Ed and everything else keep going. Some, non-essential workers are sent home....with pay. So they get a vacation. And, usually, the President makes a big show of it by closing the Washington monument, the road going by Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone and anything that might government them some political sympathy.

That is not what Trump will do. Trump will have a lot of room to maneuver. Meaning he can "shutdown" the government any way he likes. If Trump stays true to his tendencies, he won't pay the non-essential workers. The non-essential workers may not even have a job when the spending bill is signed. The entire episode will play right into Trump and DOGE's hand. Non-essential workers, departments, spending and the like will be gone.

But here is the thing. If they do vote for the CR, the next big spending legislation will be a reconciliation bill and that will have all the conservative boxes checked.

The Dims can either not vote for the bill and force thousands of non-essential workers out of the government while taking the blame or they can vote for the bill and facilitate the Republicans passing a reconciliation bill that is full blown MAGA.

  2. If they can't refute the content, attack the poster.
  3. If 1 and 2 fail, pretend it never happened.
  4. Everyone you disagree with is Hitler.
  5. A word is defined by the emotion it elicits and not the actual definition.
  6. If they are wrong, blame the opponent.
  7. If a liberal policy didn't work, it's a conservatives fault and vice versa.
  8. If all else fails, just be angry.

Here's the weird thing, and I'll admit right off the bat I've never understood it - No matter what the reason for the shutdown the republicans always wear it. They get the blame and drop in the polls even when to me it's fairly obvious that the democrats are the ones not being reasonable.

Maybe it's some weird American thing I don't quite understand but historically that's the case.

I suspect the democrats will be attempting to force exactly that kind of thing just because of that simple truth without going to the point of making it obvious.

We'll see. But I suspect the dem card is afraid of a shutdown as what might think

If after this instant disaster of a start you're thinking of voting Republican in the mid terms you're beyond f*cking retarded.

Disaster of a start? The three main issues he's chasing (border, budget and trans) have between 70% and 80% approval ratings. What makes you think there is a problem?

Republicans are always playing Russian Roulette. Either support big spending and your base hates you or support cuts and the moderates hate you.

I think most Americans think it is an amazing start. The left's problem is that he is dismantling government. Uh...yeah...government is the problem, not the solution.

We need a government that is there to protect us from foreign and domestic threats and not ourselves. That means minimal social programs and maximum law enforcement with minimal laws.

That is what we are getting. It is beautiful.

Agreed.

Trump may be going off the rails a little bit, but at least he is delivering.

Harris would've been eating out, vacationing, and getting her nails done while the left-wing shadow government continues its work of death and destruction.

He says, confirming my statement....

So you think the 70%+ that support these goals are retarded? Is that because you can't address the issues at hand so you resort to name calling to avoid debate?
