This is nothing new. IN Trump's first term, when he called African nations "shithole countries," he openly questioned why there are not many Scandinavians immigrating to America.  I do not think he understands that Scandinavian countries are habitually ranked as the best nations to live in terms of quality of life, and standard of living.

 

It's not like the 1870's when my mothers side came over from Iceland, due to a famine..

Tell me about it, in the 1960 we went to the airport to greet many Italian relatives arriving to live in Canada for a better opportunity. Now they're selling us our Jeeps and Dodges, surpassed our GDP. And have had mostly coalition Parllaments many here still laugh at.
Just as half the people here think if we restricted immigration to just the UK the people coming down the ramp would all be white and half wearing kilts.

Have had several S African doctors in our clinic here over the years. Knew them well, some as good friends. Good people.
One seemed to have a but of a missionary attitude, doctored mainly in ZImbabwe, Angloa, Namibia and did all the fly in remote rez stuff here..
One was of Indian descent, best Dr I ever had.

A couple S African wives were PITA. One wouldn't shop where the natives did. One made an employee blow up and walk out yelling "I guess the guy with the funny accent that says he's from Dell knows way more than me with just a Computer degree from a lousy Canadian university, lady" She also told another of mine that she didn't care about conduit codes, just get on your belly and lay those cables thru the mud under the cabin. BOY.
And I here all about other immigrants that need to leave their customs and attitudes back home.

SA doctors are excellent, by and large. Their preference for candour can be amusing to watch with Canadian administrators who aren’t used to that kind of thing. I believe the Indians could only apply to one med school in the ‘good old days’ of Apartheid which made it incredibly difficult to get into. Now the Africans keep them out so they can’t win.

That Dr told me I had gout once, avoid anchovies. I'm part Italian, I love those. He swivelled out from the desk and showed his knee - me too! I get it from curry! Gave me these tiny pills and just like he warned I instantly shit thru the eye of a needle and was fine a day later.

The wife saw him once and they conspired, gave her a colour print to go by and she made my 55th birthday cake the colour and shape of a giant Viagra pill. We all got a kick... she got asked to make rude party cakes for everybody in town!
