"A migrant from Guatemala has been arrested for allegedly lighting a sleeping subway rider on fire in Brooklyn on Sunday morning — then watching as his innocent victim burned to death in what the New York’s top cop called “one of the most depraved crimes one person could possibly commit.”

 

 

How many resources did NYC waste trying to go after Daniel Penny? All those police escorts, the investigators... meanwhile, things are safer than ever on the subway! 

Also... I look forward to understanding how/if this guy was here illegally or not. How many times he was arrested or apprehended before this and let go.

Thank goodness there was not anyone like Daniel Penny on the train to try to stop this guy. The real tragedy would have been if someone seriously hurt or killed this murderer before he murdered this woman.

This footage is incredible. There are people recording the woman burning on cell phone, Police and others casually walking past the burning woman. The suspect actually starts fanning the flames with a shirt, and NOBODY does anything!

Considering the woman was sleeping, and doused with either alcohol or lighter fluid, she probably was in shock already which explains why she is standing up engulfed in flames, rather than not dropping down and rolling.

Libbies have argued; "They have mental challenges. They deserve treatment and our sympathy."

For as much as one may want to "help", the sad fact is, some people are simply not fit for society. They can't function within the bounds of the Social Contract or the law. This person lit a woman on fire in the subway. He has proven his inablity to function within social and legal bounds and must be removed from society. In order to do that, the taxpayer will pay about $30K per year on him.

I'd prefer he be put to death.

Well... even that cost is only a result of the liberalization of how we have to treat prisoners. 

Put them in tents or minimum accommodations, make prison a place that isn't comfortable. Costs go down.

I don't support capital punishment. 

The government is not smart enough, fair enough, or accurate enough to be trusted with killing people. 

I also believe people can find their redemption with God, they can remain in prison, but they can have their lives to do so inside.
