Somewhat suprisingly, I'm a Libertarian as well. It doesn't really cover any law and order questions which would bring me more towards a conservative view point.

I think we need a solid Libertarian type party here in Canada. Not the current Libertarian Party which believes in such extreme things as abolishing the bank of Canada and allowing people to buy drugs without a prescription, but a Libertarian Party that has common sense.

To be honest there were a couple of questions I was tempted to say "Maybe". I agree with you. In an ideal world people would be free to do what they wanted including buying drugs without controls. Unfortunately we don't live in an ideal world and not everyone will or is capable of being responsible for their actions, and so libertarian ideals must be tempered with common sense.

I think thats what cyber was talking about. I'd rather see a nice neo-liberalistic party, or perhaps a real liberal party? But then again, this is Canada. We all need the government to pay for our kids, health care, retirement, auto insurance and tv channels!

ACCORDING TO YOUR ANSWERS,

You fall exactly on the border

of two political philosophies...

.

CONSERVATIVE

LIBERTARIAN

CONSERVATIVES tend to favor economic freedom, but frequently

support laws to restrict personal behavior that violates "traditional

values." They oppose excessive government control of business,

while endorsing government action to defend morality and the

traditional family structure. Conservatives usually support a strong

military, oppose bureaucracy and high taxes, favor a free-market

economy, and endorse strong law enforcement.

LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal

and economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government;

one that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion

and violence. Libertarians tend to embrace individual

responsibility, oppose government bureaucracy and taxes,

promote private charity, tolerate diverse lifestyles, support the

free market, and defend civil liberties.

We need a party that embraces the personal/social ideals of the Liberal Party and the economics/financial freedom of the Conservatives. I strongly believe if a party like this emerges in the next 25-50 years, they will dominate politics at the federal level.

LIBERAL

LIBERALS usually embrace freedom of choice in personal

matters, but tend to support significant government control of the

economy. They generally support a government-funded "safety net"

to help the disadvantaged, and advocate strict regulation

of business. Liberals tend to favor environmental regulations,

defend civil liberties and free expression, support government action

to promote equality, and tolerate diverse lifestyles.

The quiz is mest up anyways. Since when do conservatives have to disagree with:

* There should be no laws regarding sex for consenting adults

Interesting.... given your political compass score.

How so?

I guess my economics score is out a bit, but this is a really small test and in some of the cases I am not sure what the question is getting at.

For instance cut spending by 50%

I disagree with that

Is maybe that I might agree with that? Which I still don't

I agree in principle that government spending priorities are out of whack, and that there are a number of places where I would scale back spending, but 50%???

Replace government welfare with private charity

By 100%? Replace it completely? I don't know about that, and how do we define government charity? As opposed to safety nets?

Hmmm...I always figured I was more "centrist". Of course this is an American site and in America "Liberal" means something different than it does in Canada.

Personal freedom is more important to me than economic freedom.

LIBERALS usually embrace freedom of choice in personal matters, but tend to support significant government control of the economy. They generally support a government-funded "safety net"

to help the disadvantaged, and advocate strict regulation of business. Liberals tend to favor environmental regulations, defend civil liberties and free expression, support government action to promote equality, and tolerate diverse lifestyles

Centrists espouse a "middle ground" regarding government control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention and sometimes support individual freedom of choice. Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind, tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.

All-in all, these descriptions are pretty accurate IMO.
