John Tory- The Next Premier of ontario?
Josh replied to SamStranger's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
As much as it pains me to say it, I think Dalton McGuinty will win one more term- however, I think he will be reduced to a minority government. I don't think Ontario is ready to go back to the PC's, but John Tory will be able to point out all of McGuinty's lies and use them to his advantage. To me, it's the fact of how they turned around our finances after the defecit that Dalton loves to talk about. I will be voting PC, and, lucky for me, my University is right in Dalton's riding of Ottawa South, but sadly, I say he remains premier. -
I'll third the comment on the bias

Wow... Way to go Bob! Just makes me dispise the Left even more...

Cost of Election: $277.8 million GST Cut:$4.5 billion Removing the Liberals from Government: Priceless

Ok, now I have a question: What were Rae days? I was two when Rae came to power, and seven when he left, so needless to say, I haven't a clue. Perhaps some of the veterans could help me out?

This is Hard For Me to Say... But I Am Sorry

Stephen Harper Makes a Great Ventriloquist’s Dummy
Josh replied to Nocrap's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You have to love left wing rhetoric. I'd like to remind certain members, who seem to have overlooked the fact that our troops are in Afghanistan, on a mandate given to them by a Liberal government. It's funny how as soon as Stephen Harper took power, the Liberals felt it was time for a debate on the issue. I smell something... I think the Liberals are cooking waffles. -
I'm all for it- Rae as leader means a CPC Majority in the next election!

Layton calls on Harper to uphold medicare
Josh replied to stignasty's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well, if I were a Harper advisor, I would make sure the PM challenged Klein on this... A chance to defend the "All-Canadian Medicare System" and show that he's in charge. Go for it Harper! -
Do I not get to choose what appeals to me and what doesn't? Relaxe dude, I haven't perfected mind my mind control just yet, so for now... Anyways I was just pointing out something that is generally a fact for university students, being that most pay little to nothing in income taxes so tax breaks may not be as benificial in comparison to other things. Am I not allowed to disagree with you? I didn't mean it in any derogatory sense, and my point regarding tax cuts was more pointed towards my parents, who will be bearing the brunt of my tuition fees. I think a little more cash in the bank would help them substantially.

CRTC to Keep $600m in Consumer Overpayments
Josh replied to Spike22's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I would hope she would at least outline what the Government proposes to do on this; she was the former head of the CRTC, so I would think she would find this appalling, and perhaps use some levrage to force some action. I'll see what I can do! -
Well, thank you for the kind words tml! I am proud to stand in support of the CPC, and will hopefully one day sit as an MP for the party, and who knows, maybe the Rt. Hon. Josh is in the cards... I live in the grand 'ol riding of Durham, and worked closely with Bev Oda to get her re-elected. Connections to cabinet! WOOT!

CRTC to Keep $600m in Consumer Overpayments
Josh replied to Spike22's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If I'm not correct, this would fall under the jurisdiction of Bev Oda, the Minister of Heritage? If so, I must ask her- she's my MP, and I worked on her campaign. -
As a young citizen, I am curious to see where the youth seem to stand, and how parties should try and get the youth vote. Personally, I am a Conservative supporter because the Liberals can't be trusted, and the NDP just scares me. I respect their moral concience, but where is the money coming from?! The election prior showed me two things- the Liberals tried too hard to attract the student vote, offering cash for University. What we were never told was where the money was coming from, and how we would get it. The NDP, admittedly, has a large number of youth supporters, but yet that doesn't get them results. You would think in towns with University populations that the NDP vote would be strong... The Conservatives appealed (and appeal) to me because I am an average Canadian, coming from an average home. I will be off to University in September and will have huge fees to pay- tax cuts will help my parents and I to cover these fees. How do you attract the youth vote? In my opinion, you don't just offer to throw money at us like the Liberals did, nor do you offer to hand everything to us on a silver platter as the NDP does. Instead, give us real relief where it is needed- at the bank. Just an opinion from the (until July) non-voting youth.

I, personally would love for the Liberal's to show their true colours, and force another election- the party that forces an election any time soon will see their halfhanded attempts at power go down the toilet.

I hope the new jail plan gives those involved with the Sponsorship scandal a nice new cell to call home.

You must have been blinded by Paul Martin's corruption and blatant disenfranchisement with the Canadian people.

Congratulations!

The freedom of the press is a right enshrined in our constitution. It was established to benefit all Canadians, allowing them to write, publish and read whatever material they personally feel will best enrich the intellectual experience. Thusly, it is not the duty of the government to limit the publishing of the cartoons in question; instead, we must rely on the knowledge, intelligence, and maturity of the Canadian populace to make a personal judgment call as to whether or not to purchase the magazines that the cartoons are published in.

Al Gore attacks new, 'ultra-conservative' Canadian PM
Josh replied to Shady's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Ewww... Where would the world be if he was the President? -
sick  I don't think that's sick- I think it's an expression of a Charter right (Y'know, the Charter that the Lefties love so much...) It's called the right to a free opinion, and free speech.
-
The magazine, or "tabloid" in question did nothing wrong by re-publishing the cartoons in question. In fact, (and as much as I hate the Charter) the Charter of Rights and Freedoms says, in Section 2: "Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms: freedom of conscience and religion; freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication; freedom of peaceful assembly; and freedom of association" It was not un-ethical, it was not immoral of the magazine to republish the cartoons. Those who are offended by it, need not read the magazine.

Mike Harris did nothing wrong.
Josh replied to Big Blue Machine's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Dalton is not awful just because he has to deal with a "defecit," he is awful on so many other levels as well; how many promises has he made, and then broken? Why are tuition fees increasing in Ontario? Why are we paying MORE in taxes (excuse me, "premiums?") The answer is simple: Dalton McGuinty. I think it's time to bring back Ontario's natural ruling party.
