China's military confronts US ship in South China Sea

Spending a bunch of resources in Ukraine and Israel might be a huge mistake. Thus thing with China might get out of hand and it might get out of hand because we spent our resources in Ukraine and Israel.

The US spent about 1/2 of one percent by my count.

They have a lot left to actually defend themselves of they need to.

These proxy wars are good business for the US. They achieve a lot.

They act as a proving ground for their weapons, which makes them worth more on the open market and drives up the stock price of the companies that congressmen are invested in, they get to offload some older-generation weapons which creates the 'necessity' to replace them, which creates new US gov't spending in the companies that congressmen are invested in, etc.

This is also driving down the cost for Russian military tech: it's getting soundly thrashed on the battlefield. Ukraine is able to defend themselves very well considering the amount of mechanized armour, stealth fighters and guided missiles on both sides.

^Old "news." China has been engaging in intimidation tactics there for many years.

Sending a "warning" means NOTHING.

Old news. Countries do this to each other all the time.

Under the ice in the Arctic, and all over every ocean on earth. They do it with fighter planes and bombers too.

Really? I never heard of US military flying or sailing near other military targets in an unsafe manner (outside of declared military actions,  or retaliations).

Maybe that doesn't make the news here, even though many foreign news sources publish here.
