August1991 Posted December 22, 2023 Report Posted December 22, 2023 Americans don't know about this. In 1896, we had a federal election. The federal Liberals were elected. And then, around the federal cabinet table, there was only one single guy with a francophone name: Laurier. All the others were Protestant, Anglo. including a guy named Sifton. ==== This federal 1896 election changed Canada . Quote

August1991 Posted December 22, 2023 Author Report Posted December 22, 2023 (edited) Rather than allowing people to move West, Sifton wanted new people. Laurier agreed. Many people moved south - in New England, many have a French family name. Without Sifton and Laurier, Western Canada could have been a different country Edited December 22, 2023 by August1991 Quote
herbie Posted December 22, 2023 Report Posted December 22, 2023 See what I mean about people who don't even know how to argue? (For the uneducated, "Argue" means rationally discuss a subject, not yell at each other. Mom & Dad weren't arguing they were verbally fighting) How did it affect Canada? because in my opinion it did What's it got to do with US Politics? - can't answer at all because it doesn't... it belongs in Canada/US relatioms Trump paraphrased Hitler in a public speech and when called out, doubled down and used them again - but what about Hunter Biden's laptop, Hillary's emails, it was about immigrants not Jews etc. Come on let's step it up around here 1 Quote

Herbie, Disagree. ======= Robosmith, I also disagree with you. You are wrong. You asked above how the 1896 election changed Canada. In 1896, federal Canada changed: with Sifton, people could immigrate. Quote

I think literally everyone is confused by your steam-of-consciousness word salads. You take the time to post. It wouldn't take much more time to post thoughts that are sufficiently complete to convey a clear point. Quote

Imagine if your opening post was constructed with all the elements necessary to understand whatever it is you wanted to talk about? There really shouldn't be a need to ask basic questions about what you intend to communicate. That should be clear, no? Quote

You didn't appreciate that nonsensical string on non-sequiturs with no clear meaning? Compare that to your original post and understand why someone would have to ask you basic questions to even potentially engage. Edited January 2, 2024 by Hodad Quote
August1991 Posted January 2, 2024 Author Report Posted January 2, 2024 On second thought, I disagree. Hodad, I reckon that Zuckerburg would spend his money in Pennsylvania instead. Quote
