Women’s World Cup Soccer

I thought someone more knowledgeable would have done this already but here goes. The Women’s Soccer (Football) World Cup is well advanced in Australia and NZ. Thirty two teams started, played in ten venues and sixteen were eliminated in the group stage. We’re half way through the Round of 16 knock-out stage now. Yesterday the US was beaten by Sweden on penalty kicks, while the Netherlands beat South Africa. In the US game, the Swedish goalie had one of those dream days where nothing could get past her.

Good, I watched the US game yesterday, and when they lost I wondered, if the team was not that involved in politics and cultural warfare, would they have been more efficient? That goes for our Canadian team too. 

Less activism, more work is my advice to the women's department here, and more humility too, Men's Football brings in more money, the individual club player value is higher and sells more when it comes to the national team, so how come activist groups ask for equal pay and call me sexist when I say no?

Maybe I am a bit sexist, at least I am not a hypocrite, however, I look at the data and the market.

Canada did make a world record in this tournament though. First country to have a transgender on the team in the Women's World Cup.

There hasn't been a transgender in the men's world cup yet.

Goalless draws can be a lot of fun. England and Nigeria showed this today. What a match, with powerful shots at both ends and wonderful goalkeeping. Nigeria demonstrate that the WWC is not a club for rich nations any more. Unfortunately, they came apart in the penalty shoot-out. In the other match, Australia had a convincing 2-0 win over Denmark. The Matildas are looking strong.

I haven’t seen the odds lengthen but people are talking about the effect it will have on the team. Terrible red card. She didn’t even stamp on her properly.

Maybe he thinks they should have cheated, and that they've let everybody down by not doing so.

As someone who loses at pretty much everything he tries, you would think he would sympathize with them.

You just don't know in this tournament. England thumped China 6-1 then couldn't score a goal against Nigeria.

Buzzin’ - how English players describe their feelings tonight. What a game against Oz. Spain aren’t as impressive at heading or running but they excel at passing. The final should be quite the contrast in styles - possession football versus a more direct approach.

Should have put money on Spain! They were always going to dominate possession, the only question being whether they would remember to score as well. Which they did.

She is a biological woman so she is good to go in women’s sport as far as I am concerned. All I care about is women not having to compete against biological men in their own sports.  I couldn’t care less how she identifies.

I don't care what she calls herself, all I care about is women not having to compete with men in women's sport. 

You go on about her giving our team some kind of advantage because she calls herself trans. She doesn't because she is a biological woman.
