My degree is in marketing. I can safely say that ADVERTISING is always the most expensive marketing tool and usually most companies shy away from it. Bud Lite had a virtual LOCK on the water-disguised-as-beer market. The can was the campaign. People bought the can. 

And now putting a mentally ill FREAK on a can means Andheuser Busch has to spend ADDITIONALLY advertising revenue on the rescue of it's huge seller's image.
