California teacher repeatedly urges hesitant student to use racial slur

A middle school student in Fontana, California, asked his teacher to help him with a word in a book he was reading for his English class when his teacher began demanding he say the word, which is a racial slur.

The Sequoia Middle School eighth-grader was reading "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain when he came across the word NIGGER. The teacher was seen on video captured by one of the student's classmates repeatedly ordering him to say the word despite him appearing uncomfortable using that type of language.

The teacher claimed the slur is just a word and that it is included in the dictionary, and that he should be able to say it.

If this had happened in a Mississippi school or an Alabama school, the fake news outlets (CNN, PMSNBC, PBS, etc) would have been all over it. The teacher would have been FIRED.

This occurs in the SAME racist state where Math is racist and where THIS nonsense takes place.

As far as the meme goes, I realize the flaw is (a) assuming only whites are taxed, when blacks easily get their tax dollars taken away for this scam, and (b) the meme leaves out the BORROWING of those reparation dollars, which means the taxpayers who will get stuck with the bill haven't been born yet.

Plus, they're not giving it to all black people. In order to be eligible, you have to be descended from people who were living there during a certain time. It would be kinda like giving reparations to the descendants of people who were put into internment camps during WWII. If that happened, it probably wouldn't go to ALL Americans of German, Italian, or Japanese descendent. Just the ones whose ancestors were affected.

The words themselves don't harm anyone, that's why the context matters. Racial slurs can be used to normalize and promote racism. The term "jipped" has racist origins. But in America, so few people use it in a racial way or even know the origin, that it doesn't harm anyone. But in parts of Eastern Europe, it can still be harmful because there's still a lot of racism against Gypsies there.

Yes, nigger and nigga are two different words. And it doesn't matter what the origins of words are, what matters is how they're used. Words are defined by the community.

I didn't say there were reparations for poor white farmers. I said the plan for reparations that you're referring to in California is for people specifically descended from black people who were living there during a certain time frame.

There's blame to go around here. Given how punitive California can be against language it doesn't approve of, the state should've never let that book into its school systems in the first place. 

The teacher was wrong for full court pressing the student.
