And his mother was substantially poorer than the average parent there. There was a parent school meeting and parents were very upset. After many of them said some very harsh things, I pointed out that this boy would be in school with our kids for the next 11 years, and we’d all be better off if we started including him in birthday party invitations, and play dates, and other outings. Because ostracizing him would only exacerbate the problems. Cooler heads prevailed, and that’s what wound up happening, and his behavior problems went away.

In the real world, (in competent FLORIDA public schools) there is a thing called documented discipline. It isn't as effective as the disciplinary measures of the 50s and 60s when a teacher was permitted to paddle the ass of a trouble maker (guaranteeing that his parents would do the same when he got him) but they do the best they can. There are exceptions to this process (mostly in stupid blue districts like Broward County) but mostly our kids behave themselves.

Ostracizing? Like somehow you think inviting what you consider to be an inferior species into your wonderful WHITE world just might civilize him and turn him in to a human being? You think just like the RACISTS who believe bussing those inferior blacks to superior white classrooms could somehow evolve them.

Oh, and EARTH TO CRETIN, income does not automatically mean a child is going to be a dangerous brat. There are PLENTY of families of modest means (including single parent households) where the parent does his/her job and civilizes the kid. Yes, the odds are against the inner city single parent kids making it out of the ghetto alive, or not in prison, or not in a gang.

It is not your job to be a social worker. It is the school's job to insure the safety of your children. PERIOD.

How can you fix the cause? 
We were in our particular situation. We couldn’t fix the world or even his own family. It seemed to me that the boy was heading towards social ostracism, and the result would be his continually-growing anger… and that would mean higher risk for my kid. By bringing him into the community and inviting him, he could experience acceptance and happiness. And it worked out. The behaviors subsided and he graduated and got along. 
 

There are situations where children have extreme behavioral disorders, and different remediations are required.  I am extremely familiar with that.

Being a human being does not mean a person is instantly absolved of all responsibility for his/her actions. A human being can grow up to be a million dollar philanthropist or can be a mass murderer. The concept of HUMAN covers a lot of ground.

It is the schools FIRST responsibility to protect the safety of ALL the children in class. And even in some of the roughest schools, (and I subbed at several of those dangerous campuses in Orlando) most the kids will do what they are told and not pull a knife or a gun on a teacher or another student. So the problem children are a minority.

Yes and for that 1 kid, your band-aid worked...apparently. 

The "cause" though...is millions of similar angry kids who have no father at home. As young kids they see dads out playing with their children and feel left out. Mom can't spend that quality time because she has to work 2 jobs just to get by. So the kid steels himself and gets...angry.

They begin to resent their mothers and idolize men who have kids all over the place.

Reintroduce the value of family. Make divorce harder to get. Promote family values. And watch things begin to change to a more productive results.
