Lesser achievements included integrating Southern schools Those are the headline milestones. They are all fine examples, but they are used so often by so many today who know so little more than that, that I hope we can take a moment to peel back the calloused and cliche'd obvious reasons for Kennedy's current popularity. Watch candidate Kennedy and listen to his words and how he says them here. TNC:28 (excerpt) JFK Response to Truman Criticism (6:00) He was a young man, but quite serious and mature. There was no doubt of his sincerity or his intent. He was not playing on people's biases or emotions or pandering to their ignorance. And there was no doubting the honesty or accuracy of his message. America misses that even if half of us dont recognize what it is that we miss. Edited October 10, 2022 by DONKIROCK Quote
Rebound Posted October 11, 2022 Report Posted October 11, 2022 Kennedy and his wife charismatically embodied a bold, modern, optimistic American future. The only politician who’s come close since then was Obama. All the others are angry, old, backward. The day Obama was inaugurated, I went to a Starbucks and I saw a black man weeping. It meant that much to him. But, of course, Obama was a D, so he had to be automatically hated by the R’s, because he was born in Hawaii or he wore a tan suit or he had a funny name. Whatever the R’s could do to take optimism and positivity and drag it through the mud. Quote @reason10: “Hitler had very little to do with the Holocaust.”

So, what should any mature, responsible America-loving voter think about Obama announcing his candidacy in the living room of a convicted, domestic unrepentant terrorist like Bill Ayers? From a Wikipedia site on Bill Ayers is this from 2001. "Much of the controversy about Ayers during the decade since 2000 stems from an interview he gave to Dinitia Smith for The New York Times on the occasion of the memoir's publication on September 11, 2001.[33] The reporter quoted him as saying "I don't regret setting bombs" and "I feel we didn't do enough", and, when asked if he would "do it all again", as responding "I don't want to discount the possibility."[29] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Ayers What Obama was and did is not fully known to most of his fans, nor to few of his critics. A dedication in one of Ayers' books is to Sirhan Sirhan, the murderer of Democrat Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy. That's whose living room Obama announced his own Presidential candidacy. You guys screw up because you have bad practices and bad values based on misinformation. Quote

Do you run background checks on everyone you meet? You're assuming that Obama knew all these things about Ayers, and, most likely, he did not. He knew that the man had done a lot of good things in his neighborhood, and that's probably all. What we do know is that once Obama became President, he was very thorough in his background checks and ensured the highest level of compliance with rules and procedures. As a result, his administration was almost entirely scandal-free. Indeed, his detractors had to resort to make-believe scandals about Obama's birth certificate, in order to smear him. I'd probably done more wrong by my fifth birthday. Edited October 11, 2022 by Rebound Quote @reason10: “Hitler had very little to do with the Holocaust.”

So, he and Ayers were on the same philosophical page from the beginning. From American Thinker Magazine : "Garrow sticks to the story that state senator Alice Palmer asked Ayers and his wife Bernardine Dohrn to host a fundraiser for state Senate candidate Obama in the fall of 1995 – as if they needed to be asked. Then Garrow begins adding information. "After that gathering, Barack and Michelle began to see a great deal more of not only Bill and Bernardine but also their three closest friends, Rashid and Mona Khalidi and Carole Travis." Rashid Khalidi was a Palestinian native of radical bent then living in Chicago. According to Garrow, Obama did the following during the next eight years. He organized a panel on juvenile justice based on a new book by Ayers. He served on the Woods Fund board with Ayers. He joined Ayers for a panel discussion, "Intellectuals, Who Need Them." Up until the time of his 2004 Senate run, he and Michelle attended "the almost nightly dinners" held with Ayers, Dohrn, and the Khalidis. Ayers obviously meant a whole lot more to Obama than "a guy who lives in the neighborhood" might be expected to.
