tml12 Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 Btw, does anyone know when the Kosovo Quagmire will end? What Christmas was Clinton talking about when he said, "the troops will be home by Christmas" when he attacked Kosovo without the authorization of Congress and the Holy Sainted UN? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, but Clinton went in with NATO and was successful. On June 30, 1999, the UN Security Council approves a resolution that authorizes the plan for peace in Kosovo by a vote of 14-0. http://www.infoplease.com/spot/kosovo-timeline1.html <{POST_SNAPBACK}> June 30, 1999? A little late, no? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Some people celebrate Christmas all year... Quote "Those who stand for nothing fall for anything." -Alexander Hamilton
Shady Posted December 6, 2005 Author Report Posted December 6, 2005 What Christmas was Clinton talking about when he said, "the troops will be home by Christmas" when he attacked Kosovo without the authorization of Congress and the Holy Sainted UN? Maybe he meant Christmas of 2020? Quote
Guest eureka Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 Clinton did not attack Kosovo: NATO did. Just the same, the attack was illegal under International Law but there was justification. Kosovo only emphasises that there needs to be a modernisation of our views of modern international problems. It emphasises how some body such as the UN must be the arbiter. That still gives not the slightest comfort to the warriors who attacked Iraq brutally and illegally. Quote
Shady Posted December 6, 2005 Author Report Posted December 6, 2005 Clinton's still president? No he isn't. In the United States a President can only serve for two terms. Quote
Black Dog Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 No he isn't. In the United States a President can only serve for two terms. So why does anyone give a rat's ass what Clinton said 6 years ago? It's a red herring. Quote
Shady Posted December 6, 2005 Author Report Posted December 6, 2005 So why does anyone give a rat's ass what Clinton said 6 years ago? It's a red herring First of all, you're the king of red herring's and strawmen. Second of all, we're just comparing quagmires, that's all. We're just trying to figure out which Christmas Bill Clinton was talking about when he said the troops would be home by Christmas. I was also kind of hoping for an exit strategy as well, maybe even a detailed time table of troop withdrawal. But it's been what. 10, 11, 12 years, so who really knows? Quote

However if I am not, your calling our soldiers burtal and doing something ilegal? I dare you to go to parris island stand at the Iwo Jima statue and say that. If i was an ill-tempered adult i might have a thing or two to say to you, but since its against the rules of the forum to insult, ill leave that to you, its really what your best at as more than the majority of your post have always shown. But as for the topic, this country was founded by christians, the basis of our government is founded on (at the time) a christian government, are national Holidays are Christian founded, Im willing to bet more than 80 percent of the country is some denomination of christian. Isnt it a liberal philosophy that "the greater good, for the greater masses"? so why wouldnt that apply here, nobodies saying "Hey Muslim, or Hey Buddhist, your an outcast because you dont do are holidays" No we allow them to practice their religion in their own way. Really this whole thing is completely ridiculous, the people who are worried about this need to go find real jobs, or get real hobbies to occupy their time. Quote

You should figure out what the term quagmire means before you start making comparisons. The U.S. trrops in the Balkans can be redeployed at any time, as their prescence is not required for maintaining the peace. So the Balkan committment is no more a quagmire than postings in Japan, or Italy or any other allied nation. And really, if it is such a big sticking point, why haven't the Republicans pulled the troops out during their 5 years in office? Quote
Guest eureka Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 If you have something to say, then say it. The rules need not bother you since I would not complain as I have a long history of fighting my own battles. The attack on Iraq was both brutal and illegal. It has killed tens of thousands of Iraqis for no real purpose other than the self centred interest of the Bush administration. If that is not brutality then what is? And it has nothing to do with "your" soldiers. Don't dare to lecture me about the Iwo Jima statue I have experienced war and the effects of it. I do not write about war only from the standpoint of media commentary or a few history books. And I do not get my opinions and emotions about war from gazing at a memorial. Quote
moderateamericain Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 I dont believe you have ever been exposed to violence in your life. Nobody who has that I have ever met, not even those who were the victims of it had your outlook. And yes they are "my" soldiers, i trained a great deal of em. ret. Gunnery Sergeant e-7 Drill Instructor "killhat" Marine depot Parris Island 2nd battalion. This of course is after seeing active duty in Africa as a Sergeant, Kuwait as a PFC, and Korea. Africa was by far the worse, nothing like watching the bodies wash up from the previous nights executions. And worse, knowing there wasnt a damn thing I could do about it. Quote
Guest eureka Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 I don't give any of the proverbials about what you think. I was merely a sergeant, too. An 18 year old one who was not there because he chose to be and whose career was interrupted be the service. I also experienced bombs falling all around my childhood home - including incendiaries in my back garden. There were acres of flattened houses around where I lived. School friends killed. I take great exception to the new tone of your posts. Quote
