PARIS, Nov. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- Rioters on early Monday fired shots at police and set hundreds of cars ablaze on an 11th night of violence in France

From an outburst of anger in suburban Paris over housing projects, the violence has fanned out into a nationwide show of fury over high unemployment, poor housing and racial discrimination in the country.

More than 1000 people have been arrested and over 3,500 vehicles torched so far, according to police. No one has been reported killed till now in the unrest.

I really think Chirac ought to announce he won't seek a third term at this point.

And here's another reason France was so reluctant to support the war in Iraq. They've got a reported 5 million muslims, mostly of Arab or African origin, all highly anti-American. Chirac dare not do a thing without considering them.

I haven't heard of a curfew being enacted even after 11 days of this anarchy in France. I have heard reports that the police are ordered not to fire on the rioters. It seems the rioters are doing a variation of the Palestine strategy - create as much bedlam as you can without killing anyone and they won't be allowed to shoot us. So far it's working as Chirac seems to be without any answers.

I look with interest to see how France, a suposed shining example of liberal socialism, will solve this problem. And they absolutely have no place to look down their noses at the U.S. response to their own problems. Not that it will stop them.

Has anyone figured out how the French would be able to help in Iraq if they choose to do so, when they can't even control rioting in their country? Pathetic.

They want French police officers dead. They are demanding that the French state recognize that parts of France are "Islamic territory". They want French laws replaced with Sharia. And their chant each night, in the hundreds of locations where the rioting continues, is "Allahu Akhbar! Allahu Akhbar!". It is impossible to imagine a more complete disconnect between them and the French society that is now looking for ways to appease them. ...
