Why was Germany forced to pay reparations for WW1, while the US wasn't forced to pay Nicaragua for supporting the Contras?

Recommended Posts

Germany was forced to pay and they tried and suffered immensely for it. France at some point took control of a region of theirs to produce goods as payment when they were defaulting.

Now, when Nicaragua sued the US for supporting the Contras and the US was proven guilty, how come they were not forced to pay like the Germans?

Oh good and kind Canada, where were you when injustices like these were taking place?

Canada's principle Imperialist interest in the theater is Haiti.

The Canadian garment industry runs it as a sweatshop, so Canada props up a Neo-Liberal friendly subservient government, periodically sending troops.

Although it has once again descended into chaos and disorder, but Canada doesn't seem poised to send troops so mostly the government doesn't want to talk about it.

Because the motive behind the reparations was to clamp down on the Germans as the clash of Western Empires took place in the last century to its paroxysm.

And today's nations are more benevolent than that, is that what you are saying?

War reparations were a tool to simply imply German guilt and bring its economy to its knees, as the clash of Western Empires was reaching its paroxysm. Germany was the one nation shaken the most by the Great Depression, and by a long shot. Reparation payments were impossible to pay, so the government printed a lot of money, which caused the hyperinflation we all know about. It ultimately lead to Hitler, who was eventually defeated, and it ended the German Empire by splitting it in half, and then Germany was never a threat to the other Empires of Europe.

Do they know? And could they do something about it, when the US spends more than the top 7 other countries in the world when it comes to military expenditures. And the occupy the lands.

Yes, largely. Western countries, at least.

The US didn't 'lose' to Nicaragua. So Nicaragua can't force them to do anything.

Nicaragua is, however, free to go back to being a socialist shithole, which is what it is now in the process of doing.
