mirror
Signs pointing to end of bull Have you noticed the market action lately? The "tape," as we old-timers used to say, is sloppy. Some stocks pop on good news and then get hit with profit-taking. Other stocks collapse because they don't surprise the street on the upside of earnings and revenue expectations. More importantly, market leaders such as the energy and financials are running out of price momentum. Some would say the market is "risky." Risk as understood by the investment industry is defined in terms of the uncertainty of the expected return, and uncertainty is generally associated with variability. The theory at work here is that investors will demand and receive a higher level of return with increased (price) variability. In other words, the more volatile the security's price, the riskier it is — and the greater the reward should be, if the investor is right. If it is the end of the Bull why don't people just short the stocks and make money on the market's way down as well?
SirSpanky
I find the best indicator of a bull market is demographics; ie when people spend the most, and how many of them there are. We're still looking at the tail end of the boomers so it'll go on for a little while yet.

Shady
Once again, when one is looking for supposed doom and gloom, just look to the Left. They seem to be fixated.
Black Dog
Once again, when one is looking for supposed doom and gloom, just look to the Left. They seem to be fixated. And for blind optimism in the face of reality, look right.
