I agree.

Since I began to frequent political forums about 2 years ago, I have learned, I have taught, I have debated, I have conversed.

I have enjoyed the humour of others, I have put forth some humour of my own.

I have made friends, and made a few foes. Enemies would be too strong a word.

I have become part of a little community in which I enjoy exchanging ideas.

And, most importantly, I have come to learn the thoughts and feeling of a good cross-section of our society.

So, all of the above.

I read much more than I post, but I am still new to this board. I post when I think I have something reasonably intelligent to add to the discussion, but I don't expect everyone to share my view of what "reasonably intelligent" means!

Because I find myself surrounded by either people who already agree with me (my friends and family) or people that I cannot discuss sensitive issues with (co-workers and customers)

To fly a plane, you need both a left wing and a right wing.

Good question, sometimes I wonder.

At times this forum can inform, August and Hugo have shared in the past in way that made me reexamine my point of view.

I must admit sometimes it is to inform, but I doubt that information transfer happens. The filters that I have and those that I see share on these forums are thick(filters) to say the least. How many will admit that they gained a new respect for those that didn't support their point of view?

Aw and then there is those that claim to support the same party that you do and all you can do is apologize for them. Rightwinger I am talking about you.

I did stop posting for a while because of the lack of respectful in the discussion. I found myself mud slinging and I didn't like it. The anti Christian stuff gets under my skin at times.

So why do I post, because this forum is the closest thing I can find to have varied views that actually talk about politics. I think it is valuable to participate in discussions across points of view, and I guess the down side is being offended much of the time. Oh well. If we had squares in Canada like they do in London, where we would go and debate our politics I would be out doing it in person.

Well said. I am in total agreement. Some 'extremists' claim that this forum is dominated by this or that wing, or view, but in my opinion it is a fairly well balanced cross-section of views. I, also, have run across ideas from others that hve really made me think.

The short answer and a good one, August. There are few places where views passionately held can be expressed.

Hey Willy, never apoligize for me!

If my ways have made you waiver in your support for the Conservatives, then you are weak. If you ever learn something from most of these lefties here, you are also weak in your political view and should probably vote Liberal!

Instead of backing me up for my defense of right wing policies, you shudder and turn tail & run, it's quite pathetic really!

I am impressed at your growth Rightwinger. You only called me weak and just last week I am sure you would have used girly man.

Use the search function, and look up some of my posts. The fact is the Liberal party would not want me. I don’t consider myself a centrist and I am a double whammy, fiscal and social conservative. Does it not concern you that a right winger like myself still finds your views offensive? At any point does this not lead you to have a little self inspection? Guess not

1. Carefully considered and thought out points of view are not weak, they are rational.

2. Understanding others points of view acts to clarify ones own beliefs and if they are still valid acts to strengthen ones resolve.

I post to learn.

I have been known to post some pretty "off the wall" crap elsewhere. Besides the derision it often gets, it often draws response as well and that real response usually garners information at some point I was unaware of before.

Do I upset people??? YES, often on purpose, to illicit responses. Sometimes in anger as well admittedly, but usually with the goal of getting something started in real postings or to shut up some spamming idiot.

It's fun. Plain and simple.

There is some good discussion, good information, humour, and you can get people upset at you real easy without meaning any harm, which I think is kind of a gas.

cheers

I found this forum by doing a google search for political forums. Found it. Liked it. Stayed.

I first came to here to give my opinion and to see the opinions of others on issues of politics. I don't try to change anyone's mind, I'm not sure I really want to.

I post because I have something to say. What that is depends on the topic.

When I was a student in Quebec City, I used to stop into a pub at the end of the day, have a pint and chat. This forum reminds me of those conversations. For me, this is a place to relax.

I like to write, and to express myself.

But also, I'm learning. In expressing my views, in letting other people consider my views and persuade me of their own views, I'm building the ideas that will form the basis of The Kimtastic World of Kimmorrow. My thoughts and values are still evolving. All of you have the very exciting opportunity to help shape these values. But remember, I won't be this open-minded and pliable forever. :)

uh, who are you?

BTW, I'm tremendously open-minded. Just because I don't swallow everything that comes down the pike doesn't mean I'm not willing to consider new ideas. You don't have to be gullible to be open-minded. "Open-minded" doesn't mean the same as "empty-headed". That's a distinction that perhaps you should think on.

Uh, Kimmy, are you an artificial intelligence software package learning about life by participating in Internet fora? If so, notify the programmers to tweak your "sarcastic" sub-module.
