Machjo Posted July 10, 2018 Author Report Posted July 10, 2018 There is not much Canada can do right now. I'd say the best option for Canada would be to adopt unilateral free trade. It would hurt Canada in the short-to-medium term as markets adapt, but it would benefit Canada in the long term, and our governments should be looking to the long term even if it means short-term pain. We could always increase funding for trades and professional education for those who become unemployed as a result of unilateral free trade. But the solution is not to freeze our economy in time but to make it develop however painful that may be while still helping those who would suffer the most from the transition.
